Being a new member here, I tried to post this in another section and could not.
I have been reading a large number of posts and having read a thread with a very simple way to do this. I have tried the search a number of times with no luck.

What is the easiest way to slug a barrel ?

I have a BSA Martini Cadet 12-120 that I have been using 32-20 case in with a Lyman 311316 boolit with a gas check.

I would like to get a better fitting mould.

Thanks for any help with this.

LeeRoy,

A video that shows the basics of slugging a barrel. A Youtube search will have hundreds.

I prefer to use an aluminum or brass cleaning rod after the ball is started 6 inches or so. Lube on the lead and in the clean barrel are very important. Soft lead just a little larger than the bore is important also as you sure don't want it to get stuck.

A "00" buckshot will slug a 32-20. Even if you have to tap the buckshot a little flat to make it bigger than the bore that is OK. Egg sinkers will work too but be very sure they are very soft pure lead and scratch easily with a thumbnail. Hard lead can get you in a real jam trying to slug a bore. Soft lead is usually only hard to get started the first few inches and then is much easier to go the rest of the way with good excess lube on both bore and slug.

If you don't have access to buckshot or soft lead you can order sinkers from Beartooth Bullets. I tried finding soft lead sinkers at a couple places locally and then gave up and ordered a variety of sizes from Beartooth for around $10.00.

Thanks for the offer. I think that I have some lead, I just have the dig into a box that has all kinds of suff piled on top of it. I need to get some reloading material out of it any way.

Lee Roy,

I'm just getting started into casting for rifle boolet's myself but I have found there is some great information on the "Los Angeles Silhoutte Club" webpages. Here is a link to the page on SLUGGING, and you can navigate to about anything your interested in from there. Keep in mind you may have to cast the throat in some applications.
