I have WW pure lead and a half 5 gallon bucket of Linotype. Is there somewhere on this forum that has recipes to make boolits out of the pure lead?
Thanks

Most boolits that use pure lead are for muzzleloading
mix you lino and equal amounts pure to make a hardball alloy (16 bhn)

I made an alloy calculator in excel. Search this forum for "lead alloy calculators" to find it.
The latest rev. is 2/14/11

mix the pure with clip-on WW at 50/50 for a good non-magnum pistol load. Water quench them for magnum pistol or light rifle loads.

Use the Linotype for the higher velocity rifle loads.

Also check the stickies in this forum. It has links for lots of recipes.

Happy casting! :cbpour:

you can mix the lead 3-1 with the lino and get ww alloy with tin too.
mixed 50/50 with ww's it's a good all round alloy that makes nice boolits.
or the ww's lino and tin to make a close to 5/5 alloy. i make a closer to 4/6 alloy thats very useful in rifle rounds.
how i figure what i want is to add the numbers up [antimony] and divide by the weight.

say you wanna use 1 lb lino thats 12 [ thats how much antimony is in there 12%]
and three lbs ww's [3% antimony]
so i go 3+3+3+12 thats 21 divided by 4 or 5.25% antimony
and the tin is .5+.5+.5+4 or 5.5 divided by 4 or 1.36% close enough to 14 bhn for me.
cut that in half with pure for about ww hardness again.

Probably in the wrong place to post this. But I went out and started cleaning the reloading stuff up and found a TL358-158 SWC bullet. I had started to order one of those or the TL358-158-2R a couple time just never got around to it. I couldn't remember where I picked that bullet up. So I climbed into the rafters of the garage. Started going through the casting stuff and found a 6 cavity that I must have gotten 12 or 15 years ago and forget about. I have the .358 sizing die also now I just need to get the stiff down and get to it. Hope that bullet shoots good in my 1894C. I don't have any bullet lube other than Lee Alox. What can I use on the mold as a lube that would be around the house?
Thanks

I got the pot and other stuff down last night. The Lee 20 was full of PL from shotgun slug I tried years ago. I drained off about 10lbs. and refilled with WW. Cast about 60 boolits and water dropped them I've never done that before. I should have looked at them sooner I don't think I had the heat up high enough didn't get real good sharp edges. Then after I finished I kinda messed up and just thew some ingots I had made 15 years ago in. I came in the house an remembered they were 50/50 WW linotype. So I guess things may be a little harder this next few? Looking at some of the threads about buying new lead ingots makes me wounder why I would mess with dirty old WW. I don't want anybody to think I'm snooty but $1.00 a pound for 44 158 gr. boolits and I think I can get it in the QuadCities 45 minutes away. Any thoughts Pro or Con? I can get all the WW I want for $20.00 for a 5 gallon bucket. Although a lot of them aren't lead and don't melt.
Thanks
