Recently I posted about my new Rem Spartan single in 7.62X39R. I have also posted about my NEF Ultra Rifle in .500 S&W Mag. Here is a surprising ballistic chart comparison of the two calibers:

The .500 has proven to be a bang flop big game cartridge for me. I limit my effective range at the point where the load drops to 1000 foot pounds for humane harvest of deer/bear. That is an old standard, but I am an old hunter.

The new rifle has a surprise in the numbers, The effective range of this little bullet is longer at the higher velocity; 140 yds for the 7.62X39 versus 110 yds for the .500 S&W Mag. is where the 1000 foot pound border falls. I have worked up loads faster in the 7.62X39 but am still playing to peak accuracy and have high hopes for the 2150 fps from the cartridge for my grandson.

The software I used is free to use at:

Printing out from the free software is difficult! I drag and drop then re-space line at a time into Word. You get what you pay for, but it works.
