I'm planning ahead and starting to save for a 1903 Springfield and learning as much as I can. Looking around I see 2 as well as 4 groove versions. What is the concensus if any, which might be better for cast boolits?

Each is a law unto itself. Both can be excellent cast shooters.

I'd get the 2 groove myself........................

I have a 4 groove 1903 and a 2 groove '03A3. I've not noticed any appreciable difference in the way they shoot my cast boolits.

Both are fine. You just need to taylor a bullet to suit the different type. A two groove will like a nice bore riding nose as there is lots of land surface area to support it. I four groove barrel will like prefer a bullet with longer bearing surface.

If you are shooting under 200 yards then either is fine. However, look at the end of a 2 groove barrel and you'll notice the bore is oblong shaped. The cast bullet will come out that shape and it's balance will not be equal to the "rounded" bullet from a 4 groove barrel. I have shot cast in lots of 2 and 4 groove M1903s and 'A1s. The 4 groove barrels always shot better at 300+ yards with cast and j bullets. If you think 2 groove barrels are "just as accurate" then ponder why they aren't being used today? The are, after all, cheaper to make so if they were as accurate they would still be in use. They are not, that should answer your question.

I don't see myself shooting more than two hundred yards. The trend I have noticed in looking at on line sites like Simpson's is that the 2 grooves are usually less expensive. An excellant bore 2 groove is sometimes less than a good bore 4 groove. I have no preference, but I'm looking to avoid any casting/sizing predicaments.
Thanks guys
