Okay, I've got a newbie question for you all.

In the past I've always used straight WW for my bullet casting. I've decided to add some tin to the mix and picked up a 1lb bag of tin cut wire from Rotometals. For the proper mix, do I just weigh out how much WW I'm going to use and then take 2% of that and add the appropriate number of ounces of tin? This is probably an obvious question, but it's my first time and I didn't want to screw it up. Thanks in advance.

Weight the amount of WW's or WW alloy you plan to use. Say 160oz. (10lb.) Multiply 160x.02(2%)=3.2oz. Take 3.2oz. away from your WW's and add 3.2oz. Sn (tin). Your going to have to estimate what those steel clips will weight a subtract that from your total. If you weight the WW first w/clip then melt the lead off and weigh just the clip and multiply by the amount of WW's you have you can have a close idea what those clips weight. Best thing to do would be to smelt the WW's and remove the clips, pour alloy in ingots (muffin tins)

I've already got the WW melted into ingots so the clips aren't an issue. Thanks for the rundown. That's kind of what I figured, but I wanted to make sure.

I estimate that clip-on ww have .5% of tin already. So I only add 1.5% tin. So for 10 lbs of ww (160 oz.) I add 2.4 oz. of tin.

Remember when using bar solder that if it is 50/50 then only 50% is tin. 63/37 and so on. Pure tin is the easy way but very costly.
