I have been doing some casting lately using the RD look alike mold from Noe.Now its time to start loading.I have 2lbs of Lilgun and was going to try it out.Mt Speer manual is the only one that has info on Lilgun and that is jacketed b ullets and they use magnum primers.I only have large pistol primers.I know Ranch dog has a load on his website using Lilgun max at 23 grns, but he doesnt kist what type of primer.Could I back off that 23grns 10% and use a large pistol primer and work back up not exceeding 23grns.?Any body have another load using Lilgun in the Marlin?

Some of these slow burners like Lil Gun, H-110, 296, etc in the 44 mag. don't respond well to reduction in charges. Powder companies warn to use their data as listed . I'd ask more questions before reducing the charge.

I thought I was supposed to start low and work back up to the max charge.

Some powders don't do well with reduced charges. Check out the Hodgon website for some load info

The Hodgon website does not list any data for Lilgun in a rifle. But they do list for a pistol using Lilgun and a 270 gr Gold Dot.I didn't think to check the pistol info.Would it be okay to use a large pistol primer? There shouldn't be a problem using pistol data in a rifke shoulf there?

My dumb...does anyone make 44 magnum brass that uses anything other than a large pistol primer...I don't think so....been using large pistol primers in my 44s for almost 40 years.

Lil'gun is supposed to not have the same restrictions on it as 296 and H110 do against reducing loads below book minimums. Inversely, since it lacks the ignition inhibitors that 296 and H110 have, it should possibly even shoot better (as in more accurate) with non magnum primers (though DO use large pistol primers).

WLP primer , 22 grs Lil Gun , RD 265gr and Marlin 1894 = accuracy and hog killing power!

Most of what I've read about Lil'gun is suggesting that it be used with the heavier bullets as it needs that extra resistance to burn right in a handgun. Why it also works well in a .22 Hornet makes that a bit confusing.

Hi!
Is this load safe to shoot with my Marlin 1894?:
Magtech cases (CBC)
CCI 300 LP
RD 265gr (270gr with my alloy)
20grs LilGun
