What scout style scope base and scopes do you guys use? Which combo works best?

Thanks

I've tried all of the cheap ones....stay away from those unless you intend to JB Weld them on to keep them tight :). For Mosin Nagants I HIGHLY recommend Darrell Harrison's mounts: click here (http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforums.yuku.com/topic/36954/Scout-Mount-Ordering-Information-and-Current-Availibility) .

I own two, and will buy more if I decide to scope any more rifles.

edit: He seems to be sold out, but he builds them in batches. Email or visit his forum to find out about availability. Here's the article that led me to his services: click here (http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting2005/mosinscoutrifle/index.asp)

BTW... I tried several different cheap SKS mounts too, and wasn't happy with any of them. These are the Bees Knees though: click here (http://scoutscopes.com/)

If you are trying to scope a 91/30 the easiest way is to remove the rear site base by driving out the two pins and heating the base to soften the lead solder holding it on. Drive it off forward. You will be left with a 3/8 dovetail that is part of the barrel. A set of Weaver STEEL EX high mounts for a 22 rifle will clamp right on. I gave mine a recoil lock by notching the rear mount at the rear pin and reinserting the pin. I have put over 125 rounds thru the rifle with this set up and the scope is rock solid.

I guess I should have been more specific. I have a 98k and a persian mauser that I would like to scope.

Are s&k bases any good?

Sorry, can't help you there, I shoot my Mausers naked (the rifles of course...sorry for the disturbing image), with the exception of one on which I am getting a Lyman 57SME receiver sight installed by drill and tapping--if the lazy "smith" gets around to it (meaning me).

I have often considered buying one of those S&K mounts though , as cyberspace is full of positive reviews of them.

Dutchman on here makes some of the best mounts I have seen they replace the rear sight base and use a long eye relieg scope. They are very well made and of excellent quality. I have one on a 1908 Brazilian and am going to get another for my pther rifle.

I'm using the XS Sight System Clifton Scout Mount. It involves desoldering the rear sight and epoxying it into place. The stock also must be inletted for the larger diameter.

If you are OK with all of that, it works very well.

and a persian mauser

I'll have to double check but I think I have one Persian 98/29 mount left. If you're interested drop me an email swede1894@gmail.com
My mounts are designed specifically for NcStar 2-7x32 handgun scope. I believe it's lower than any other for the Persian.
