so my new Cimarron has throats that all measure .453 except one which measures .454
i used a telescoping guage and a micrometer.
my question is would it be best to size the boolits to .454?
one thou over the throat should be ok, right?
no, i have not slugged the barrel yet.
thanks in advance.

Well Waco, I size .454 for .4525 throats with no problem.

I would go with .454 if the boolit's front drive band doesn't extend out into the cylinder throats. If your boolit design does then you'll have to go .453; hard pushing a .454 object into a .453 hole. The one cylinder throat may give that dreaded flier???

Mold is Rcbs 270 SAA.

The front drive band might very well extend into the cylinder throats and if so then .453 is what I would size to. I ran the RCBS 270 SAA in my 454 casull SRH and the front drive band extended into the cylinder throats which is what I prefer as centers the boolit up in the cylinder for a straight alignment to the barrel, well as straight alignment as the cylinder is to the bore. I size to my cylinder throats as the boolits I design or use will typically extend into the cylinder throats. Additionally, having more boolit outside the case is good though as it gives more room for powder. :)
