There is no maker's name on this hollow base mold. Note the fancy joint design on the removeable aluminum handle. Each block is marked, 450.255.

I'm guessing that Lee made this mold, but that's only a guess.

I have a couple I bought from Dixie Gun Works that are identical to that. Made by "Challenger". I suppose it is now defunct. Mine are .58 cal, and cast a pretty good slug, although I have nothing to shoot them in yet.

Does not look like any Lee I ever saw and I started using them in 1976.

I have one just like it. Marked 500 FD on the side, and B2115 below the handle. I tried casting some yesterday, and had a hard time getting the skirt to fill out. I had some luck pressure casting by holding the sprue plate hard against the pour spout, and probably would have had better luck with higher temp, but stopped just short of 800*.

Years ago, a ML chum told of a match they shot in, where one of the stages was for the team to shoot down a post (6x6, 8x8, I don't remember). The team would start with a boolit like this that would do a marvelous job of chopping out a big gouge. Not as accurate as their standard boolits, but made a great first impression on the post. Seems like it would make a great impression on Brer Deer, too...

Interesting, too, is their use of a roll pin for the handle hinge.

Hi Uncle45Auto,
It's either a Shiloh, or a Green Mountain.
Both of the above used aluminum, barrel pin handles.

any chance you could cast a boolit and post a pic?

is it a wadcutter?
