Been shooting skeet and trap for years reloading my own, now I want to start reloading 12,20,28,410 ga slugs. Is there a manual out there that speaks to this? BP has been working on one for the past two years and they say they don't know when it will go to press. I want to loads slugs now.

Lee makes slug molds that are sized to be fired out of a wad. They make 7/8 oz and 1 oz 12ga molds, for example. Lyman makes some 20ga molds as well as 12ga.

The Lyman Shotgun Reloading manual has slug loads but even better is Reloading for Shotgunners.

Also, there is slug loading data here:

http://data.hodgdon.com/shotshell_load.asp
http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/index.aspx

As mentioned above, Lee provides not only slug moulds but also reloading info that can be downloaded. Their slugs fit into standard trap wads.

A problem you will find is that there is such a variety of shotshell reloading components that there is a variety of data as well and recipes are quite specific as they are for shot loads.

I have collected info from Winchester, Federal, Alliant, Hodgdon, BPI and I have several other shotshell/slug reloading manuals as well so I can have a reasonable stab at finding loading data for the components I can find.

If you have a specific set of hull, wad, primer and slug you are interested in loading I may have info.

They also have a sub-forum for handloading, but it is all skeet & trap.

I have superb results with the Lee 1oz slug. I bought the mold and the instructions included loading info. The wad I use with WAA hulls requires no spacer wad under the slug in the wad, column height is perfect and excellent crimping is easy:

I use Lee's recommended charge with Accurate #5 powder. I do scale weigh each charge. My slug gun is a Winchester 1300 smooth-bore with scope and the load groups better than any commercial slug ammo of 6 brands I have tried. I get 1.25" groups at 50yards. I will tell you that my charge bar on my press did not like Accurate #5 powder at all as it is extremely fine and leaked a lot. However, with a scale I was able to use the maximum recommended charge safely and got terrific accuracy.

If you follow the link, click on reviews and you can read my review of the wad I use, my initials are G.A. in Buffalo, NY.
