Alright ladies and gentleman, i'm not sure this is right place for this thread. But here goes, i wondering if are any hog hunters here? Have been using j bullets and now want to use cast boolit to shoot hogs with and wondered if round nose 240 or Elmer Keith style flat nose would be best. Wanting best pentration and for want to shoot in front shoulders and hog having thicker and stronger shouldrs than deer was wanting your opinion on which would be better. Plan on using 240 grain boolit.

Forget the round nose boolit, it does nor offer enough shocking power
and will only zip through the hog without much damage.

The Keith boolit would be the best as it not only penetrates well, but will damage more tissue then a round nose could ever do.

In my opinon! the first choice would be a lbt style WFN or LFN , 2ed choice would be a Keith style SWC

I am with Bob. Take a nice wide flat and go right through them.

Can you say Ranch Dog 265 grain boolit

Feeds perfect in several un-modified MARLINS..great accuracy in assorted VAQUEROS and BLACKHAWKS. Also have the NOE lube groove clone in plain base. The gas checked Ranch Dog design lubed with XLOX actually cleans leaded barrels....for me anyhow.

Anything with a relatively flat nose that weighs 240grs+ will anchor a hog.

You are getting great advice from all the above folks. I agree with all of them.

Ranch Dog TLC432-265-RF or TLC432-300-RF. In the last decade I have killed several hundred hogs with both of these bullets out of my two Marlin 44 Mags.

There you go! Ranch Dog 265 RF. I got a mold about two years ago and have been shooting them in my .44s with very good results (Puma .44 Mag, Ruger SBH, 10" Contender .44 Mag., S&W 629, and Dan Wesson 44H). I originally got the RD 265 because the bore of my Puma is oversize, about .432" and my RD mold drops boolits at about .432" to .433" and RD also sold me a .432" Lee sizing die. I couldn't be happier...

I had the RD 265, and it worked well.
I wanted a mold with more capacity, so got in on the NOE copy of the RD 265 with conventional lube grooves. It is working well, both with GCs and as a PB. I had my mold made 3-PB and a GC in 1 4-cavity mold.
I also have the 310GC Lee. It is a good boolit, tho it needs to be thrown out there fairly fast. I make my loads run about 1350FPS, which ought to thru and thru about anything but a rhino or elephant. OK in a 9.5" bbl'd SRH, but might sting a bit in a short bbl'd SBH.

Please bear with me guys, WFN = wide flat nose? LFN = Long flat nose?

I had great success on elk with the Lee 310 gr. RFN out of a 7 1/2" SBH at 1050 fps. Went all the way thru and elk died shortly after.
Was no problem to hit gallon milk jugs at 200 yards with this boolit. Did have to file off the rear sight screw under the top strap as it hit the cylinder.
