I am looking for information on 2 molds I recently purchased. One is a Cramer 2 cavity mold. The sprue plate is marked "49-A"". It appears to be a Loverin style of 27 or 28 caliber. Any ideas of caliber and weight? Second is a similar design and is a Saeco-Redding marked "538" and "1FD". This one appears to be about .30 caliber. I won't be able to get home and cast anything for a while and would appreciate any informtion available. Thank you.

I dunno about the Saeco, but the Cramer catalog on Castpics lists the 49a as a .311, 170 grain round nose mold.

The sprue plate on the Cramer is the only thing marked on this mold. It is smaller than. 30 cal. Someone must have changed the plate. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

thread-dredge! Just acquired a "Saeco by Redding 538 F6A" single-cavity mold and can't find squat on it except this dead-thread... any help appreciated. If I can use it, I'm keeping it. If I don't shoot the caliber, it's for sale/trade. It looks close to 25ish' rifle, not pistol. I have a 25-35 so it's been killing me not knowing. It's not in the data PDF that SAECO has out there... I have tried, now I need help. Google was not my friend :veryconfu

Are you sure it is not a 56A? It would be a 75 gr flat nose 25-20 bullet. http://castpics.net/dpl/index.php/the-library/moulds/30-mold-catalogs-of-old/106-cramer-molds . Hard to find much info on discontinued Saeco molds.

I picked up a SAECO #385. Didn't know the particulars, so I emailed Redding. They gave me the particulars for the obsolete mold. Diameter .358. Should drop @ 146. Round nose. For 38 S&W.

Their reply was very quick. Shoot them an email. cscf@redding-reloading.com (Chris Fox)

So I just got off the phone with Redding and the Redding tech was scratching his head... I sent him a pic and he is researching it. I will keep y'all posted of the results. Thanks again!

so far the tech has told me: "that looks to be an obsolete mold, style E tapered 200 grain and .324 diameter. Was made for Pope barrels, but the only records I have show that Saeco made them, not us (Redding). We bought them around 82' and I am sure we did not produce that mold. I will talk to our mold-maker and get back with you."

this is the latest... and since I don't shoot this caliber... it will be up for auction in the for sale section on CB as soon as I have firm details on it... meaning a typed email from Redding, not a phone conversation.

the moldmaker said that Redding does not have a cherry for that mold. I'm guessing its pretty uncommon.

Looks like a Barry Darr design when he was at Saeco in Carprnteria Ca. in the 70s and early 80s and they were producing Schuetzen barrels as well. Might look for a old Darr catalogue.
