Went to the local gun show this weekend and just barely made it through the front door when I spotted a cardboard box full of molds, handles and a Lyman 450. The gentleman wanted $300 for everything, so I looked through some of the molds and concluded it was a fair deal. It wasn't until I got home and started taking everything out that I realized there were 15 Lyman molds, 1 Lee mold, 3 sets of handles, the 450, and a few odds and ends. Most of the molds were in about new condition and in their original boxes (with instructions and wax paper). Here's a list of what was there:

311359 2cav
358156 1cav HP
358156 2cav
358242 2cav
358311 2cav
358429 2cav
358430 1cav 200gr
358495 2cav
375248 1cav
375449 2cav
410610 2cav
429215 1cav HP
429244 2cav
452374 2cav
452460 2cav
454485 2cav
Lee 454-252 1cav

I can use all but one of these molds for my own guns. I certainly wasn't trying to take advantage of the man. I had no idea there were that many molds in the box. This guy had taken the molds on trade many years ago and never used them. Apparently, he never looked through the box either. Most of the molds were purchased new around 1975. Looks like it's time to fire up the furnace! I cannot wait to try out the 454485 in my Puma M92...

Good lawd, that is a haul!
Don't feel bad about it. I'm sure he was happy to not have to lug it to yet another show.

Heck, I'd be grabbing them....

and ebay is my friend!

I'd make enough to get into some of the group buys!

I think I would sell all but a few I absolutely had to have and then invest in the group buy molds. Or you could sell them all, get all your money back and the sizer is for free!

I have to admit that I have already thought of selling a few to fund some group buys. But first I'd at least like to give each mold a try and see how I like them. Especially the 358430 and the 454485. I can imagine the 358430 being interesting in my 357 Mag, 357 Herrett and 358 JDJ. The 454485 might work well in the 45 Win. Mag. and the 45 LC. We'll see....

Man o' man you did great !! The Mould angels were sitting on your shoulders !!
I'd like to rent that 429215 HP mould from you and make up a few handfulls to try in my contender. I'd be curious to know what a boolit like that weighs using a 50/50 WW/Pure lead alloy..

Sell them for group buys? Nah, keep them and do group buys anyway! Now, THAT'S fun!

If you do put them on e-bay, remember to use the term "vintage molds".

If the one you can't use just happens to be the 410610 and you want to sell it I call dibs.

I've found the 358430 (200+/- version) to work quite well out of my 357 Mag rifle. VERY accurate out to about 100 yards but has a rainbow trajectory at my velocities.

If you decide that you don't like casting hollow points I would give that 429215 1cav HP a good home if you want to sell it.....................Terry
