great idea, but if plastic rod was available wouldn't it be better as it wouldn,t absorb moisture like wood?

That is a good point. I have a fairly stout dehumidifier for my safe, so I am not too worried.

I looked for plastic rods, just couldn't find any.

fibreglas arrow shafts
brass rods from home depot or Lowes press fit into the wood
brass tubing from a model shop

Wood is a big problem. seems like a lot of work when you can buy plastic rods for 3 bucks a piece at storemoreguns.com

Oh, *** about wood absorbing moisture? That theory only holds if you have a safe full of plastic stocks!

Looks like TEXASFLYBOY removed his picture but it was a homemade version of rifle rod as sold by commercially by storemoreguns.

Basically he made a block with velcro and a wooden dowel small enough to go down your bore to help hold the rifle vertically. You'd stand your rifle up with the dowel in the bore then extend the rod until the Velcro attached to the fabric on the underside of the shelf of your gun safe, which would keep the gun in place. It's a good project if your into DIY projects.
