hey fellas. Anyone know how to get a boolit that drops from lees 312-155-2R a little bit wider in diameter?

You can look into what is called LEEmenting here on the forum

or do what I did when I had a oversived barrel on an T99 Arisaka. I used LEE's 170gr .323 Boolit and sized it to .318 and then to .314 to fit when LEE's .312 185gr boolit tumbled to the target.

Have you tried that trick with the shiney aluminum tape on the mold? A thin small strip on one or both sides depending on how much bigger you want the bullet to be. I did it with my 7mm
Mauser 1895 and it worked very well.

Leementing is polishing out burrs. Not that a heavy handed lee-menting might not open things up 1/1000" or so, but it isn't what you're looking for. You want to look at beagling. Search for it, pretty simple.

What are your bullets dropping at now and where do you need to be??
I am new to casting but not reloading and cast my first bullets with that very same mold about 3 hrs ago. Mine are dropping at .316" - 140gr with some ingots I bought at a gun show which are labeled #2 alloy so I don't know the exact composition of the alloy. I will be casting for my 3 Nagants but my pet project at the moment is an Enfield No 4 MK I* which slugs to just over .314". My first casting attempt was with a Lee C324-175-1R which I sized to .314 and Gas checked. I have decent results with that bullet, which weighs 159 after sizing and with GC, and 26 gr of H4198. By decent I mean 1" groups at 50 yards with the bullet running about 2000fps and no leading. I tried 20 grains of 2400 which was tumbling and would stay on an IDPA target at 50yds but that was about all. I gave sized the bullets I cast tonight to .314 and will shoot them tomorrow with a load I will determine in the morning. I am using a Lyman 450 lubrisizer and will probably expand the .314 sizer die to .315 and will purchase the Lee C312-185-1R next week and will lap it if necessary to get it to .316 after I come up with an alloy mix I like.

Like others have asked.... What does your Mosin actually slug? How big of a boolit can you stuff in a fire-formed cartridge?

Those Lee molds usually end up in the 0.313-0.314" diameter range.....

If you are determined to use that mold - you could lee-ment it but use Lapping compound instead of JB Bore paste.... It is a bit more aggressive..... Unfortunately, there's no free lunch... it's easy to make a mold egg-shaped with lapping compound and a hand drill.....

The other popular option.... Check out the Group Buy 31X299 - available in 311, 314, and 316" diameter.... And usually just what the doctor ordered for the Mosin Nagant's crazy bore and groove dimensions.....

Just a warning, though..... Check chambering with larger diameter slugs.... Many Mosins have very tight chamber necks... and won't chamber boolits large enough to fill up their throats.... You may have to find some brass with thinner necks (Graf's brass seems to be cast-boolit friendly)... or just stuff the largest boolit you can fit into a fire formed case neck... You never can tell......

Thanks

John
