I'm starting to get what it looks like flattened lead stuck inside my mold. What is the safest way to remove it?

Use a sharpened #2 pencil as a pick, or rub the stuck-on lead spots with a boolit if it is on the flat surfaces of the mold faces, the boolit will act like an eraser (lead sticks to lead).

I've found that when the mold is hot anything wood will remove stuck on lead.

Yup, it works, there won;t be enough time for the boolit to melt if that's what you're thinking. Once the lead is off rub the area with a carpenters pencil then polish off the graphite. Shouldn't have problems after that.
