Is the current Accurate 4100 the same powder as the old SCOT 4100, or did Accurate find a different/new source for that powder, when they ditched the Scot line?

If memory serves (no longer always true!) Scot 4100 was marketed as a shotgun powder for the .410. Whether or not it has changed over the years, Accurate no longer lists it for that use, but calls it a magnum handgun powder. See Here (http://www.accuratepowder.com/products/handgun/?view=8&product=4100)

That said, other powders suitable for .410 are also magnum handgun powders. W296/H110 is the primary example, but 4227 also has dual uses. Taking the opposite approach, Alliant's "410" powder has no handgun uses listed.

Go figure, huh?

Yeah, I think it's a combination of marketing hype combined with the difficulty of testing a powder for every use by the lab. Tests take too long for that many applications, and when considering the marketing angle, just not worth the time/effort.

It still makes me wonder though (and the reason I originally asked the question), if this is the same powder, sourced from the same manufacturer (in Scotland)? Mainly wondering to get it added to my database of powders. If they are different sources, I count them as different powders. If it's just a re-labelling thing, I count them as the same.

I have been led to beleive that this is also sold and known as Ramshot Enforcer ! May be worth a call to western powder to verify .

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall hearing/reading the same thing, but again, unsubstantiated. I'll try calling or e-mailing Western. I have a couple addresses for ballisticians who work in their lab, somewhere. I try not to bother them unless it's really important though... :redneck:

I've read somewhere that 4100 is very similar to Lil Gun in burn rate and performance, with one experimenter using the same load data. Don't know if this is correct or not.:cbpour:

From: Propellant Profiles - Accurate 4100, Handloader #258, Feb. 2009, R.H. VanDenburg, Jr.

'…However, Accurate retained the shotshell/handgun powders including the Scot Powder name. The 1994 Accurate reloading pamphlet added to the shotshell/ handgun line with the introduction of a new powder, 4100, under the Scot marque."
"…the Accurate Smokeless Powder Loading Guide, Number Two (revised)…further suggested that load data could be extrapolated from that of No. 9, the company's slowest-burning true handgun powder, by increasing powder charges by 3 percent. That meant, of course, that the No. 9 starting loads could be increased by 3 percent and powder charges worked up to not exceed the No. 9 maximum charges plus 3 percent.
"…49th Lyman Reloading Handbook,…powders numbered 44 through 50 are listed as: 2400, No. 9, Enforcer, V V-N110, 4100, H-110 and W-296.."

Author's Selected Loads: (Magnum primers)
.357 Magnum - 158-gr - 14.0 - 1225 fps - 4 5/8" barrel
.41 Magnum - Speer 210-gr - 17.0 - 1144 fps - 4 5/8" barrel
.44 Magnum - Sierra 240-gr - 21.0 - 1403 fps - 7˝ " barrel
.44 Magnum - Speer 270-gr - 20.0 - 1335 fps - 7˝ " barrel
.45 Colt - Sierra 240-gr - 24.0 - 1250 fps - 5˝" barrel
.45 Colt - cast 250-gr - 17.5 - 1030 fps - 5˝" barrel
.45 Colt - LBT WFN 300-gr - 20.0 - 1082 fps - 5˝" barrel
.45-70 - cast 300-gr - 27.0 - 1715 fps - 26" barrel

Note: .45 Colt loads for Ruger Blackhawk, Vaquero, T/C and Freedom Arms only. Not for Colt SAA's or their clones.

AA 4100. Manufactured in Belgium.

I'm moving away from Lil' Gun in my magnum handgun loads as it offers little in the flame retardant department. Will continue to use it in smallbore centerfire rifles.

H110/296/2400/AA#9 & this 4100, now on my bench

enforcer and 4100 are the same powder.
the old bulk container I got from Dick Casull lists it as 4100/enforcer/ and a lot number for the bulk 35lb container.
4100 is a half click faster than 2400 and the loads are super similar [like .5gr difference at max loads with about 25 fps different velocity's]
I have used mid-range 2400 data for 4100 and enforcer without any issues [I.E. 19.5 grs in the 44 mag with a 240gr boolit] or difference on paper or for hunting.

Ramshot Enforcer and AA 4100 are the same powder. They are listed nearly the same or the same according to load data and IIRC these two are made in the St. Marks factory out in Florida.

I've purchased and used this powder in the last few years now and it's one of my favorite for magnum loads in 454 Casull and Ruger only 45 Colt. Loads ignite easier or more consistently at lower minimum or middle charges than AA #9 and H110 if that is of any importance for some. I have about 10 lbs of it and find it as a nice powder for the purpose I intend it for use.

Interesting.. some loads are verbatim and other loads aren't.. I've been wanting to try 4100 in some 410 loads but haven't been able to find any available.. Enforcer I can actually find..
