When I bought my rolling block off gunbroker it came with a leather sling--same set-up as we had in the Army but that doesn't really come into play here.

The brass swivels are covered with green 'junk' which I can get off with little problems.

The leather also has what I would call a green 'paste' on it where it came in contact with the swivels.

Any easy way to get the leather sling clean?

thanks

That green is known as verdigris, a chemical reaction betwixt the copper and the chemicals present in the tanning ingredients in the leather. I've used vinegar and baking soda to clean leather of verdigris.

Maybe a good leather cleaner first

I have used Mink Oil, applied with an old tooth brush with good success.

CLR might do it.

Got most of it off--stil working on the verdigris (thanks Tim357 for the word) where the leather is folded over a brass loop and sewn. Thinking vinger and an air compressor then baking soda and hit it again with the air.

Leather looks good so far even after the hard scrubbing I gave it.
