Wow. Instant lifetime stash! Love to have it but I wouldn't want to pay that much for it. Buying in bulk like that, I'd want a little more incentive to try to cut that beast into manageable size...

Yup, the price is too high for that amount.

I live about 80 miles from there but that's 3 times what I pay.

You won't be aquiring much lead in the future under 0.70 per pound.

I would buy 2 tons at that price but the 1100 mile trip would eat up the savings.

Something tell's me there might not be a big line uo for this weight.
Give it some time and call and get an idea what can be done to "recycle" this for him.

He already has an offer, he's just looking for a better one.

"Have an offer in hand of $.68/lb picked up for the lead fin keel. I believe it is 9,000 lbs. If you can do better, email me."

Some people have more money than time.

It's gonna cost quiet a bit to salvage that lead. If ya pay scrap price, you'll loose money before it's done. There is no good way to cut it up in small enough pieces to smelt. If done in cold weather the fuel bill to melt will be huge. 4.5 tons is a clumsy thing to load and off load. Your chances of getting hurt, working without proper equipment, are great.
Like you I'd love to have it in ingots, but getting to that point is going to be hard.
Keep us informed.

Sorry, I just don't see it. I should drive an hour and a half to spend better then 3 times what I pay locally. Sorry, not me.

If you follow your own logic that 1100 mile trip don't mean nothing cuz the price might be $5/lb in the future.

You guys missed it.

I guess it sold for 15 cents a pound

I think you mis-read it, he said:

"The local scrap yard offered $.15/lb This lead goes to Canada and they pay the transportation."

The local scrapyard in NC didn't get it since it went to Canada - presumably for $0.68/lb plus freight.

Why would they pay that much? Must be the Canadian govt...
