Well, the mill/drill in the basement is finally up and running, thanks to a buddies electrical help. (the Bridgeport in the garage is still powerless) I made my first cuts with it this morning. Nothing major, just truing up some aluminium castings. I made my first cut, Maybe .010", and all went well for the first pass.
On the second I thought to put some lube on the work. I used "tap magic" for aluminium. All of a sudden there was chatter and it looked like the HSS end mill "galled" the work.
I stopped everything, cleaned the lube off the work piece and everything was back to wellness.
What did I do wrong? Wrong lube? Wrong to use lube in this situation? Spindle speed was 900RPM too fast? Too slow? Setup wrong?
