Guess some would call it a crime, but I'd rather play with my toys than watch the Super Bowl. A few lessons learned though. This steel in this one is HARD. It took 3 good(non China garbage) hacksaw blades and hours to cut. I think I wore out my file flattening the muzzle. Ditto on my 11deg muzzle reamer while I was crowning it. I want to shoot something along the lines of 320+ grain hardcast out of this one, so I took a regular Blackhawk sight with the bottom filed flat and D/T'd it to the rib. This way I will have plenty of height to work with.

I also filed away the rest of the warning label on this one. Wasn't bad at all. I figured it couldn't look any worse if I filed at it. After all, nothing says custom like half the writing still on the barrel  I am in the process now of taking the shine out with Scotchbrite pads. The next home grown 4" Redhawk will be in 45 and will have the proper front sight since I have one on the way. Oh yea, and it will be blued.

Nice to have a good bit less than half of wholesale in my 4". I'll take some better pics in a few days when I can get outside with it. By then it will have some wood grips and be cleaned.

On a side note, I think the new energy saving bulbs are giving everything I take a pic of an orange tint. Guess I will have to change them out to regular bulbs and see what I get.

If you need a front sight like that in different hights, try magnum Reasearch bfr sights.
I love the short bbls.!...Buck

I got mine back from the smith a week ago today, have not had the chance to shoot it yet.

that looks like a great packin' pistol! one suggestion though, round the out side of the muzzle. I know it is dam hard to do by hand but it will add quite a bit to the finish. just my two cents.

great work as usual I wish I had the patience and talent you have. Heck I'm even afraid to attempt taking the warning off

That's not too shabby, Tek! Should be fun to shoot.

Patience and skill? Nah. I just know it is mine and I can do what I want with it :) Besides, if I screw it up too bad, I can part it out and lick my wounds.

I'll get around to rounding those edges one day soon. Would be nice to be able to just use an outside radius cutter, but the rib........

THAT took skill. I considered doing that to mine, but that is beyond my hand tools and drill press. I did practice drilling the cross pin on the piece I cut off, so my next one will have the proper 4" front sight. With no milling machine, the slot in the rib will have to be done by some careful drilling and finish with a dremel. Won't be pretty, but the sight will cover it up and it will be secure.

I finally got around to taking a picture after I finished cleaning it up.

Haven't shot it yet. I am waiting on a mold to come in to try some 300gr HP's in it. I know I will have to shorten the front sight a bit, but that will come after I decide on a load. Of course I am always apt to trade it off before any of that happens :)
