Well I finnaly got my Winchester 94 30-30 converted to a 38-55 . Got some rounds loaded up tonight made a few dummie rounds & they fit good in the chamber and extract well but when loaded in the mag tube and cycled through the hang up . I was wondering if any of you have had this problem .

Where are they hanging up? Before the lifter raises all the way up? When entering the chamber?

Seems to me it would have to be One of three things.

Cartridge length. Lifter length. Feed rails/width. 38 55s have always been easier to get to feed than smaller calibers for me.
Did you hire out the conversion and did the smith widen the rails? Pretty basic stuff.
What has been done to it? What kind of jam? 2.55" is max length, try a little shorter.

The nose of the boolit enters th chamber then hangs .

I had a smith swap the barrel I do not think he done anything else.

Quick off the cuff reply FWIW.........sounds like a feed rail problem

Well late last night after reading some responses I seated my dummie round to 2.540 .010 deeper
and it will cylcle throught the mag tube fine. So I did the same with loaded round and the still will not cycle . After reading some of the other post I think I can get it to work by adjusting seating depth. Hopfully.

I have not had a lot of time to experiment , been real busy I going to shoot it for the first time today when I get off work .

What is the chamber length on this rifle? Is it cut to SAMMI specs to use the 2.080" brass or to the old standard to use the 2.125" brass?

If it is chambered for the 2.080" brass and you use the 2.125" brass, you can have severe pressure problems.

Oneokie I done a chamber cast best I can tell it 2.125

Well I finnally got to shoot som black powder cartriges what a hoot . I came home & gave the rifle a good cleening . The rounds I first loaded ,I think I was putting a little to mutch bp in them and compressing the bp a little mutch . I droped my load down to 41 grains with about
1/16" to 3/32" compression and seated them to 2.530 & they now cycle fine.

I guess I may have jumped the gun thinking there was a potentially serious problem I have been wating to get this thing together for quite a while . Crossing one hurdle after another it feel real good finally getting to smell smoke . Thanks for all of yalls input.
