..so I guess I'll try here. What is the going rate for a 1lb can of Unique in your local supply store? I'm not talking Midway or Grafs, I want to know what it would cost at a local shop I could walk in and buy it. I got a price of $23.99 from my closest supplier and I just want to make sure she stays honest.

I think you can still get it for under $20 in my area.

TY. Julie is willing to take my word for how much something should cost but by the same token I don't cut her to the quick either. I realize she needs to make enough profit to stay in business so I don't have to pay the $25 hazmat fee.

That's at or a little under single-pound price out here at most shops in California.

Bass Pro, about 2 miles from my house, Unique and Bullseye $19.99/lb last weekend. It's been the same price for months.

I paid $21.00 for a pound of Bullseye just before Christmas. Same manufacturer, Alliant Techsystems, so should be very close to the same price...Ray

I can't find it cheaper in SOCal so order all my powder & primers. Order at least 10 units (1# of pwoder & 1K priemrs are a unit) & that spreads the HM fee out to $2.50/unit. No ST, yeah that's how I do it.

I don't think that price is out of line.
I paid 23.50 for a pound of Herco at the end of 2010.
The smaller stores must make a profit, and they do not get the price breaks that the bigger
chains get with the amounts bought.

I bet those little 1 lb. cans or jars are pretty cute. I haven't seen one in years...

I saw one of TITEGROUP and one of HP38 last week...they had a funnel in them so I wouldn't spill while filling them from eight pound kegs. GRAFS is some cheaper than the other guys AND the wife drives past them in MEXICO MO when she goes to visit her sister.

You might want to look at PROMO (RED DOT clone) since it runs under $90 per eight pound keg at GRAFS...about $95 at the local shop.

Finding primers under $30 a thousand is my problem locally.

Sadly not many lilbitty stores out here. I've paid 18-23 for small cans of about all flavors . Last I looked at Unique it was at 20 per lb. I bought the 8# though at 117.

I've bench cans of Unique and Red Dot that are the little cube cans with the press it lids as well as the kegs I'm still burning off.

Don't know about unique but yesterday I bought 1 lb of HP38 for $27.95 and 1000 WLP primers for $35.95.

Hey EDK

Can you tell me a little bit about "PROMO"??? I've never used it; ......But I have used Red Dot in my .45 ACP and Webley loads. If Promo has similar burn characteristics, that $90 price on an 8 pound can is sure attractive!

I can't stand paying the 1 pound prices.
$21.99 plus
$01.82 tax
makes $23.81 or lets just say $24.00 for simplicity.

An eight pound can costs $98.50 plus $25.00 hazmat and then about $15.00 shipping.
Works out to $17.31 per pound
Its like getting 2.5 pounds free and then if you order 16 or 20 pounds of mixed powders it gets even cheaper.

If you only need one pound, then by all means support your local reloading store or it won't be there for much longer.

However, if you want to buy in quantity...

Wideners.com has it for:
UNIQUE (1LB) $15.00
UNIQUE (4LB) $55.00
UNIQUE (8LB) $99.00
Of course, you have to pay hazmat and shipping.

Powdervalleyinc.com has it for:
UNIQUE (1LB) $14.35
UNIQUE (4LB) $54.00
UNIQUE (8LB) $98.50
Special deal: No hazmat or shipping if you buy Tula 10,000 primers and you can ship up to 40 lbs additional product.

By the way, they have Promo for $82.60.

Skipper,
One pound, a local small business...go for it.

I've paid a bit more, for no other reason than it was a local small business, in stock, I wanted it now, and didn't have either the funds or a shopping list to buy from a wholesaler.

My son ordered a Rossi Wizard from there a couple of weeks ago. When we went to pick it up he wanted a couple of boxes of ammo, a scope, rings and a few other incidentals. I called her on a couple of things including a set of Lee reloading dies for the .308. I told her the die prices were out of line and she said she'd knock it down to $27 after looking it up on the internet. I told her I'd give her $33 for them as I realize there is shipping involved if I order them from somewhere and that I didn't expect her to cut her own throat.

As far as the 1 LB goes, I'd rather get 8 Lbs, I just can't afford it right now. In fact I just had to buy an airline ticket to Spokane WA to go for a job interview, their going to reimburse me but after the year I've had it's depleted my account.

I've used the Red Dot for my .45acp for a while but I'm not impressed by either the performance or the dispensing of the Red Dot. I've tried 800X and HP38. Both have other issues. That's why I'm trying the Unique, it was reccomended to me in another post and I sent a message to my supplier asking if she had any. Her response prompted this thread. I'm also going to try in in my 12 gauge. I'd like to be able to stock one powder that will work well in both.

I believe that you'll only find load data for the heavier loads with Unique, like 1-1/8oz and up. If that's what you need, then you'll be fine.

I was noticing that but 1-1/8oz loads seem to be standard field loads for 12gauge for factory shells so I don't see a problem. Might be a little rough after a couple rounds of skeet though.

I have a local shop that has it for about $16/lb, another new local shop says they can order it for $28 but all of their prices are at least as high as Gander Mountain...

The $16/lb is not for old stock, it is their every day price for Unique, they sell a large amount of powder.

1-1/8 oz is what the wally world value packs have. Game loads are typically 1 oz. I've loaded some 7/8 oz loads that have nearly 0 recoil and you could shoot all day. Promo powder can do all three...

The price is pretty much in line. You could buy a little cheaper elsewhere, or pay a little more elsewhere...but it's right in line with what the reloading shop in my neigborhood charges for single pounds.

Unique's a good choice for the .45 ACP, and it'll do you well for shotgun loads as well. Unique's usually not the "perfect" powedr for any one thing...but it's rarely if ever the WRONG answer...and its a powder that you can almost ALWAYS find a load for.

That's what I want, a powder I can put on the shelf and use for what I happen to need at the moment instead of stocking 15 different types of powder only to find I have three times too much of one type and ran out three months ago on what I need to load.
