As I was thrashing around looking for my Lyman 44 mold yesterday I came across this mold. Hey I was in a silver stream sorta mood so I ran about 20 pounds of them. I had it marked 162 grain SWC.

Anyone out here have any knowledge/experence with this mold?

Figured I push it out of the 357 Mag (revolver and 10" TC) and maybe for light loading with the 357 Max or Herrett.

I've used mine for 20 years+. It has been my go-to boolit for the 38 Special for many years, and I loaded it from 700 to 1000 FPS (K-frame S&W only) with very fine accuracy. My castings weight 152 grains in 92/6/2 alloy. I have used it very sparingly in the 357 Magnum, mostly 1000 FPS-level loads with Unique. Again, it showed fine accuracy in my two 357's. I don't recall pushing it past 1000-1100 FPS.

5.4 gr of unique and this bullet is my accuracy load for a 38 special. If it won't shot this it won't shoot. Gianni.

I think this is mould # was used for 2 different bullet weights, 158 gr. and 150 gr. Glen Fryxell has an article that shows the two versions side by side. I have the heavier version and a friend has the lighter which is to suppose to fit .38 Spcl. applications better

to weigh and did not get around to it. Will do so tomorrow night.
I had it marked 162 grain, but when I looked it up in the Lyman Manual (AFTER posting here) it said 150 grain. It weighs 155 outa my alloy

It is a pretty little boolit and just seemed like it would love to be a medium load plinker.

1000-1100 fps outa my 357s and 357 Max TC would be a great practice load to get used to a couple of hundred rounds per session!

I will look for Glen's article. I have ALWAYS enjoyed his writing and will look at the LASC site for this one. I was glad to see he had migrated here.

I didn't see this thread until just now -- thanks for the kind sentiments guys. I agree with what MT Gianni says above, the 150 grain version of the 358477 is very accurate with 5.4 grains of Unique (about 950 fps) and if a .38 revolver won't shoot this load well there's something wrong with the revolver (for the 158 grain version, this powder charge should be reduced to 5.0 grains of Unique).

The 150 grain 358477 also shoots quite well in .357 Magnum revolvers with 14.5 to 15.0 grains of 2400 (around 1500 fps). For whatever reason, this bullet doesn't shoot worth beans out of my Marlin .357 lever-gun, but it's a peach out of my revolvers.

If you can't find an old 150 grain 358477 (why did Lyman change it?!?), the RCBS 38 150 SWC is very similar, and equally accurate.

I had the same experience as Glen in an 1894C. Never tried it in a revolver.

Agree with Glen. Been using that bullet for many many years. Great bullet in 38 S with anything reasonable and 357M with 2400. Shot fine in Rosi 357 M lever action but did not feed that well.

before you posted the link.

For those that have not done so they may want to peruse the offerings at:

There is bound to be something of interest to each of us.

Ok so I have this brand new jug of WC-820 (FAST . . . think HS-7) that I would like to try with this boolit in the 357 Mag.

This little boolit may have to wait, rifle seasdon opens this weekend and I finally found a decent shooting load with the RCBS 200 grain 338 RNFP.

Glen , I appologize if I plagerized you, but it is a great load. Gianni.

Plagiarism? Heavens no! I got that load from the same place you did -- the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. Great load!
