Went to an auction today. Picked up a 450 sizer with a lot of dies. I also have a 45. As well as 2 extra presses....

So...what do you prefer? Using a custom built sizer, or a sizer like the Lee setup? (I think, the 7/8 dies).

I can make the Lee type dies all day long on my lathe....as I could also make them for the 45 and 450.

My only thoughts are that I could sell the 45 and the 450 and buy a mold or two.

So...what are your opinions?

The 450 is a newer cheaper version of the 45 isn't it? If that's the case, why not sell the 450 and hang onto the 45. I am led to believe that the RCBS is superior unit, but I think they mean in comparison to the 450.

Like to see a blow by blow account of how you make sizer dies. Buckshot did one on Lee style dies recently I believe.

If I look long enough, I will probably sell myself a lathe, etc.

Do you have a link to the post from buckshot's sizer dies? I can never find it.

The leverage on a 450 is better than a 45, so is the seal on the pressure nut (but that can be retrofitted to a 45).

So sell the 45, keep the 450.

Thanks for the link. Gotta get me a set of barrel laps.

.............Unless you're planning on making bunches of dies, don't bother. Get some 1/2" OD aluminum rod. As you need them turn one end down to 3/8" to chuck in a drill motor, then turn the other end down (for about 2") to a size about .020" (maybe .030") under the finish die size. Use a .020" slitting saw to slit the aluminum back to the 3/8" part. Use wet or dry paper and WD40, diesel, kerosene, or paint thinner on it to hone the die to size.
