I've done my share of reloading, but I'm kind of new to bullet casting. For the first time last week I managed to cast decent boolits. So, time for some more lead!
I understand if the alloy includes copper it can cause inclusions. My question is "How much copper is too much?"

Where is the copper coming from?

If you're getting it from Babbitt, it isn't enough to worry about.

I've seen some lead advertised with 1/2% copper, some with 1%, and some with as much 4% copper.

I have cast with 2% copper and boolits came out just fine (hard, but fine)

It`s hard to melt like antimony so the traces of copper or up to 2-4% will cause no castability problems !

I`m not a metalurigist or anything but microscopically I think the copper will be encapsulated by the lead , unlike antimony which tries to encapsulate the lead !!

Sounds good even if I did`nt sleep at motel 6 !! LOL

Maybe the people who know will chime in !! PLEASE !!!

I know just enuff to get into trouble !!!!

I was told somewhere here that Big Truck WWs have up to 2% copper. I have cast with them without problems. They do turn out a little harder, but antimony content may be higher also.
