Anyone done any studies on the difference in trajectory in a 350 or 360 grain boolit vs a 405, running basically same velocities at over 100 yards in a guide gun?

I'm wondering if it makes any real difference other than saving some lead?

I would say I doubt it is a meaningful difference. I have looked at what a gain of 200 fps gives and it isnt much.
I will say I like the idea of a lighter bullet to save on lead. I just can't get away from the fact that my lighter bullets all require a gas check. Yes, I could go without but just like to UAE gas checks when the mould is cut for them. My choice. I have a group buy mould for a 420 plain base that shoots sooooo good I can't get away from it.

Go to one of the online ballistic calculators. I bet you find a difference of an inch or two veterans the two. That is not relevant to my way of thinking.

You'll find pretty complete tables in the back of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook, 3rd edition.

I haven't found a meaningful difference in trajectory out to 300M, the 405 kicks more and is more accurate. I do not like shooting 405gr. bullets at 1800 fps, but 325s are not too bad.

Yes, weight makes a huge difference in recoil. I find a 350 at 1900 to be better than a 420 at 1700. But the 420 is what I choose for hunting black bear. I like the weight and penetration it gives.

Is it the 460420? I have that mold and it shoots great. I also have the 360. I bought the 350 GC RDog, but I am not sure I will ever use it as good as the plain based ones shoot.

It is the 460420 from two or three years ago. I love that mould.
With 24 gr of 2400 it shoots 1.5 to 2 inches for 5 shots of a rest at 100 yards. I use it more than any other bullet / load in my Marlin. It just works.
Same bullet with 47 gr of 322 made a black bear very dead last spring.
I have both the 425 and 350 RD plus the 350NOE version of the RD with 1 hollow point. I am on a self imposed ban on 45-70 moulds. I have 5 or 6 now and seem to use just 1 so why buy more?

I've pushed the saeco 350GC real hard and it is accurate. It looks like a Gas Checked lyman 457122 without the hollow point.I think it would shoot flatter with its smaller metplat.I've got BRP's 420GC and it is very good also but does kick harder when loaded with heavy doses of H-322.I shoot it a lot with 28.5 grains 5744 for a accurate light kicking load but if I was wanting to reach out way out there I'd probably load up the saeco 350 with a max load of H-322.It shoots real good in my XLR and my highwall.Haven't tried it in my GS yet but I bet both will shoot real well, the BRP shoots inch or less with the aimpoint on it at 60 yards.I have a Mtn Mold 405PB that shoots real well also when I don't want to mess with gas checks. It shoots real good with the 5744 load and shoot very well with 4759 and a dacron tuft.I haven't found any powder that shoots faster with good accuracy than H-322 or Vitt-133 but the heavy loads with the 420's kick the **** out of you.
