Making my rounds at the local gun shops i come across two 357 max. New in box unfired Dan Wesson with extra barrel. Owner had been offered 2500 but turned that down.
He also had a 6 1/2" BH that had been fired very/very little. Not a mark on it and absoutly no cutting at all. As tight or tighter than any new BH i have handled period.

Price $850.00 I have never found one let alone priced one before. Actually seems a little high to me but thats the reason i am asking you guys.

Any input would be welcome.

Thanks
Dwight

Are you sure it had a 6.5-inch barrel?

That owner was nuts! 2500 is over twice what it is worth, IMO. I think that $1000-$1100 would be a fair price for a NIB Dan Wesson with 2 barrels.

Regarding the Ruger Blackhawk in 357 Max, was it a factory gun/cylinder? If so, $850 is not awful, when you consider that a new one sells for $550-600. You could always offer $750 and see if they take it. Check on Rugerforum.com for specific values of Blackhawk 357 Max guns.

No not sure about the 6 1/2" length.
Was it a factory gun/cylinder? i assume it was and like i said i have never seen one before. It also had scope mount and rings.

As far as the price for the Dan Wesson i had/have no ideal what they bring. Apears the person that offerd him 2500 and the owner for turning it down may both be nuts.

That Blackhawk should not have been scoped. If the guy is selling it as an original factory gun, any serious collector value will likely be gone since it has been drilled & tapped. They did not have factory scope mounts, it was just a Blackhawk with an overly long frame & cylinder.

The last 357 Max Ruger I bought was at an auction about 10 years ago. The auction was from a gun shop that went out of business. The owner died, so his entire collection was sold also. The 357 Max was a NIB revolver. I bought it for $600.

I also have a shooter in the same cartridge. Decent revolver. Not the most accurate, but then most Ruger's are not that accurate IMO.

Never did see one in a 6-1/2" model. Tom.

That hasn't been my experience with Ruger .357 maximums. They have all been particularly accurate.

I bought my 7.5-inch Max last year for just over $700.00 and it is in great shape. They're out there, you just have to look.

I am not sure why the BH is getting that price
I am buying a BH 357 mag for 350.00
don't know why there should be that big a difference in cals

That's because it was a special lengthened frame revolver -- not the standard Blackhawk and they only made them for a couple of years.

Typical Ruger! They have made more collector guns then any company out there. Make a nice gun for a few years and drop it. Price goes up! How I wish I had my first 1956 flat top.

Ruger recalled that revolver. They stoped selling it because of a problem they were having with flame cutting the top strap. If you send one back to Ruger for warranty work they will not ship it back to you. They keep it, and refuse to return it. Alot of people returned their's, so there is a limited supply out there. It was not made originaly to be a collector's revolver. It just turned out that way. Tom.

The flame cutting was more of an issue when folks started driving light bullets fast in their maximums. It was meant to sling heavy lead. They are collectible as such. But, an even better use for them is to convert them to .500 maximum.....:bigsmyl2:

I like the max in a contender but I wouldn't want one in a revolver.It doesn't do anything my 454casull can't do better in a F/A model 83.
