I have a set of lee 7mm loading dies and they work just great unles I'm trying to seat round nose slugs instead of spitzers. The round nose slugs actually get stuck in the die and pull back out of the cass neck. The 30-30 is designed to use flat nosed slugs so do you think I could make seating die body fit in my 7mm die or do they use different sized threads or some other stupid thing that makes this impossable. I'm asking here because I don't use my 30-30 dies any longer, haven't for 20 years and not sure where to go looking for them, and not going to if you folks think it's a lost cause. Thanks for all your help.

The 30 30 is .308 diameter and the 7mm is .284. If the dies are the same brand and the 30 30 will fit in the 7mm die body,I see no reason why it wouldn't work.Might have to do a little fitting but you won't know til you try.Dig those 30 30 dies out and give it a whirl.:bigsmyl2:

Fill the 7 mm seating plug with aluminum foil or hot glue. The seating stem will have to be re-ajusted, accordingly, as the bullet/boolit nose will no longer be entering the opening in the plug.

learned something--hot glue would be easy remove--this is one I'll have to try

I'd go along with the hot glue idea. I just pulled 4 Lee seater plugs one from a 7mm die, a 303 Brit die, a 270 die and a 30-30 die and all of the plugs were the same. They were all machined for a pointed bullet.

I think Lyman dies are the only ones that have seating stems that match a boolit's nose design...just like a top punch.

RCBS will custom fit a seating stem also. You just have to send them a bullet and the cash.
