I picked up an unfinished/poorly finished 1903 springfield a while back. The barrel had been bobbed with a hacksaw and a file and the stock saned to 80 grit and varnished. The scope mount hooles were not lined up and the owner sorta gave up on it. I welded up the holes and retapped them straight and started putting on parts. I took the barrel and turned it from 44 wartime to smooth and then parkerized and duracoated the metal parts. I narrowed the trigger guard and put in a timmeny trigger set to 2.5 pound. I put on an old Buhler saftey from my box and then I took about 2 pounds of wood off the stock. I added some old sling swivles from a Mauser sporter and put on a front sight and drilled and tapped it for a Lyman 57SME. Re did the poorly done bolt job and checkered the knob just for the heck of it.

I had picked up a Forster sight jig and this was the first time I haven't used the mill for sights, the jig worked just fine, but I will probably sell it as it's not any handier than doig the job on the milling machine.

Didn't come out too shabby compared to what it was and since the bore was a 10 on this one it's a cast shooter. Can't wait till I can get it out to the 100 yard range for some shooting.

That looks just right, right now. Any more would be overkill. Good save....

I'm impressed. A really nice job to save what someone else had near " butchered ".
