I WAS planning to peddle this gun and replace it with a BFR chambered in .500 JRH. So I went to the range to burn up the .500 S&W ammo I had loaded. One of the loads was the 400 gr. RCBS (408 gr. from WW's) over 11.5 gr. of Unique with a Win. LR primer. Velocity averaged 1006 fps. This was at 25 yards. I didn't paper it at 50...it was 17 degrees and windy...but the load hit the same spot on the swinger each shot.

This gun does equally well with 350 XTP's at 1650 fps or 425 LFNGC's at 1300. Maybe I"ll regret selling it???

My beef with the long frame is the amount of "freebore" for the .500 cartridge. This same bullet at 1250 fps gave me some nasty forcing cone leading but I didn't try water dropping yet. This pic shows how far the bullet has to go to hit rifling.

That is quite a jump to the barrel. Probably should rechamber it to 500 alaskan, then you'll have room for some powder!

I have one of those -- not such a good idea! LOL!

Looks to me like the gun is a shooter! Can't hurt to have both!

Keep the gun! Leave well enough alone. Boolit jump is not as important as some think.
Make the boolit harder by water dropping. Softer boolits will skid the rifling.

it's too bad those bfr's aren't accurate. also if you really want to reduce boolit jump then you could get it on the group buy in my sig line. lol

I should probably keep this gun....if for no other reason than to impress the kids at our Hunters Ed. field day demonstrations. I nailed a water jug with a 350 gr. Sierra HP at 1700 fps and the guy on the camera snapped the shutter at just the right time.
