Hi

I have picked up the old 94 BB 375 win. With the the though of using some mild cast loads. I have some 249gr hard cast bullets non GC I bought sized and lubed to .378. Are the loads in the lyman hand book a bit hot 1500-1600fps?? I loaded 28 gr of re7 and got some leading and it sprayed them at 25 yards. Could any body recommend a load Thanks

I load 30.0 Re 7 with a hard cast GC LBT boolit. For a PB you would probably be better off using 38/55 loads like 6.5 - 9.0 Green Dot, 7.0 - 9.0 Unique. You are right 1500 - 1600 is on the hot side with a PB, it can be done. But is hard without knowing the alloy and lube you are using. My 94 Big Bore slugged .3756, but a .378 boolit should still be able to group.

Drop down you loads to about 1K and I think that you will see a drastic change in accuracy.

I'm running 20gr IMR4198 behind a 240gr Ly375248 sized .379" @ 1543 fps in a Marlin .38-55, good accuracy-no noticeable leading, .........FWIW

The 375 Win is one of my favorites! I have the Marlin, I've owned three, but I have several rancher friends that have the Winchesters. I have examined these rifles through chamber casts and they all have one thing common, a very large and shallow step. This means that it is long and creates quite a void to fill with lead in order to get an acceptable level of performance. Gas checked or plain base, the bullet is going to need to fill the step.

This is the major difference between the 375 Win and 38-55, it is all in the step. In the 375 you are looking at a step of about 3°, Marlin or Winchester. The 38-55, 6° to 10°. With the greater angle, the 38-55's throat is shorter and less a void. Back to the 375, expect to see about .395" to .400"! My rifle is .3990". If I just had slugged it, I would be very mislead as the bore is .3707" and groove .3757".

The ideal 375 Win bullet is a bit different than the ideal 38-55 Win bullet. The 375 is going to need quite a bit of "nose" to fill the step. It is going to need quite of bit of diameter as well, despite the tight barrel. I shoot my 235-grain gas check bullet at maximum pressures/velocities and it is very accurate.

Here is a link to my product page, I offer it because of my drawing links. It will help you visualize the chamber of this unique cartridge:

Hi

The boolit I am using is from hawksberry river bullets and is for a 38-55 that is what is says in the box. I wanted to try some before I invested in a mould. May have to invest in a mold some time soon
