Good wind screen for the pot and I can tell you cold weather is way better for smelting than hot weather. You gonna wear gloves anyway. Well.... I really prefer it's in the 40s rather than 20s. I guess us southern boys deal better with hot than cold. I've smelted when it's 90+ in August but just can't get into doin it in January when it's 20s and windy. $.02 10 ga

I'm thinking it gets in the mid 30's smelting begins. I have to see how the solder drippings clean up.. If they clean up okay I have access to a couple hundred more pounds.. I'm sure some forum members could use some for the tin content.

Yep, you wouldn't have any trouble getting rid of that solder. I would probably buy some myself depending on its composition. Do you know the percentages of tin and lead in it?

I believe the solder is 63-37. It is industry standard radiator repair solder. I am thinking about picking up all the man has. I just have to give him a heads up on when I'm coming to his shop.. He is happy with what I am paying him and also getting the tank cleaned out... :bigsmyl2:

I'd love to buy some of that 63/37 from you.
You should definitely get all he has IMHO. ;)

Well I got everything but the solder smelted this weekend. I did do a small batch just to see how it went.. So I ended up with 180 lbs of pure-350 lbs of WW. And right around 16lbs of solder.. Now I can concentrate on finishing the rest of the solder drippings. After that there are approx 400lbs more solder drippings left to pick up.

WOW - that's an outstanding find on your solder drippings. With the going rate for that stuff, you could sell a bit on here and fund your habits for a (little) while!
