Big propane burner an a very stable looking steel stand AND a cast iron pot! For some silly reason they think this would be good to fry fish in??

$50, but with shipping to my place it will still be under $65.

Pretty much the same setup I use. If you can find a large ladel with holes in it they work great to get the clips out from melted Wheel Weights.

Be sure to use it outside it will create a lot of smoke.

I pour my melted lead into popcans that have had the tops cut off rinsed out and let to dry.
When cool I tear off the aluminum can they fit perfect into my RCBS promelt.

Thanks for the heads up.

If you already have a smelting pot, you might consider this one: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Propane-Cooker-with-Aluminum-Pot/product/10205245/-1631022

Looks to be the same burner setup with an aluminum pot for $20 less.

Pretty much the same deal as I use. Mine's a King Kooker fish fryer. Works good for smelting, especially compared to the Coleman camp stove I used before getting the fryer!!!

Same thing I used the other day for my first ever smelt....it worked great.

I just noticed! That setup comes with a media sifter also!

There ya go. I knew that looked like something useful, but my mind was stuck on skimming dross and clips and I think it is aluminum so not really good for that.

Is the 58,000 BTU rating the way to go or are the 100,000 BTU not worth the extra money?

58,000 BTU will get the job done. 100,000 BTU will do it faster, but uses way more gas, and is harder to regulate the heat to avoid melting zinc and oxidizing tin and lead.
The one I got at Northern Tool is 70,000 BTU and is more than adequate.

I just got mine in the mail and put it together. It is very sturdy and has a cast iron burner. Once I got it together, I stood on it and bounced up and down a little. I weigh 181 lbs. The pot and lid are quite heavy and the unit has a guard so that the pot can't slip off the burner. Very pleased with the set up. Thanks again kevbo.

I ordered the 29.95 model, + 8.50 shipping, and it arrived Thursday. Put it together that night and today smelted up 50 lbs of lead flashing and 20 lbs of WW's. The stand was stable and it melted lead quickly. This was a great deal.
