Took the S/C O3A3 to the range to see what it would do. shot at the gongs with the 311440, 311284,311165RD(NOE), 311190GB and a 313135swc Tom at Accurate made for me.

At the gongs, the gun seemed to like just about everything. The barrel must not be hardly used and I had about .080" of the first driving band out of the case and was having chambering difficulties. Was able to unload a chambered 311440 and the front driving band was marked back about .040-.050". Going to have to seat boolits deeper for easy chambering.

Took 5 shots at paper. Understand my eyes are not as they used to be and it was hard to tell where the diamond was. Kind of had to guess. Makes for alot of verticle dispersion.

21.2gr 4759 at almost 1800fps with the 311-190 GB boolit. One that has 3 crimp grooves.
Need to put a black dot on the target so I can see things better.

Looks like a fun day. I want to get a Springfield someday.

1. What was the range at which that target was shot?

2. Looks like you are getting some vertical stringing. Tweaking of the powder charge is in order.

It was at 100 yds. Got some work to do, the fun kind!!!

Two of my 1903a3s and a 1903 all liked 19grs of SR4759 with the 311041 sized .3105".
The best will do 3" to 4" at 200 yards.
Easy way to test the overall length is with a cleaning rod and the boolit. Put a flat tip on the end of the rod so the boolit can't enter the end. With the gun unloaded, bolt closed put the rod in to the bolt face, mark the rod. Open the bolt, put just the boolit in the throat and hold it there with a pencil, put the rod in up to the boolit, mark the rod. distance between marks is maximum overall cartridge length with that boolit design.
If you want you can lengthen this figure to engrave the rifling a little or shorten it to make sure it will close easy, like for hunting.

Glad you had fun at the range.

leadman, Nice tip on OAL. I was wondering how that was done.

leadman, good tip and an old one from the days before we had these "new fangled" measuring devices. Its works, and works well indeed. James
