I have the rifle.

I have the primers.

I have the reformed brass.

I have the gas checks.

I have the powder.

But I don't have the mold!! My cruise missle mold is caught up in a backorder.

Anyone have a few 6.5 mm cast boolits they would like to sell? Any weight will do. She mikes a 0.266". I just want to get a few rounds through the old girl.

Well thanks to keeper89, I have some 140 grain boolits to load. Thanks a bunch keeper89!! Now I have to wait for the rain to leave so I can put a few downrange. I took a few photos of my Swedish Mauser. Does anyone recognize the type of stock wood?

That ones a looker. I have two of them, and it would take two arms and a leg to force me to get rid of them.

I think the wood is beech, with a very nice tiger stripe pattern.

Mine was made in 1901 and its wood is plain Jane.

For powders, try 2400 and IMR 4227.

When a 110 year old rifle can deliver a serious case of whoopass on most modern bolt action rifles you don't call it an "old girl". The first time you shoot a sub-MOA group you may call her Madame Svenska.

Thank you, sir. I stand corrected.

You have just got to witness statements from one who knows these rifles. Have a look around Dutchman's website, you will be amazed at what you will learn.

Pirate, great looking swede! I have a carbine and am looking for a long rifle to be it's stable mate. I envy you fighting the rain, we have three feet of snow covering everything....but that does make some extra time for casting.......lol good shooting to you![smilie=b:

I don't really care for reformed brass much myself in 6.5x55mm. If you don't like the cost of commercial, you get Prvi Partisan ammo inexpensively and shoot it for boxer primed brass.

That's a gorgous rifle. I have three Swede's left and would not part with them. Probably have had as many 20 of them, one time or another. Used to be able to pick them up at shows for 75 bucks and they looked brand new. Those days are gone. I had to let some of them go a few yrs ago to help make ends meet during hard times. Just about broke my heart. Most of them were numbers matching 96's in like new condition. I kept one 96, one 38 bent bolt and a 38 straight bolt as a shooter. Love em......

As far as I can tell every number matches down to the cleaning rod. I think it is going to be fun to shoot. Had a chance to shoot it a little bit last weekend. I will wait and post photos and give you the results. I was happy!!!!:grin: Many thanks to Keeper89 for providing me some of his 140 gr loverin style 6.5s from his NOE mold. :drinks:

I have a Lee 170 grain CM mold that is hung-up in a 6.5X55mm brass backorder. I have seen Dutchman caution, two or three times, that the newer Lee CM molds were dropping boolits that were much oversized from what is need. Being still a newby, I have to ask what he is telling me. I have a 0.266" sizing die from Buckshot. Is there going to be a problem sizing the Lee CM and getting a respectable boolit? I am afraid Keeper89 will not adopt me:wink:

The cruise missile wasn't designed for a sizing diameter of .266". And yes, you're going to have a problem with the new cruise missile mold. Try it yourself and let us know then you won't be a newbie anymore:).

Just bought and cast with a new CM mold. Dropping .269 w/ WWs + 2% tin, water dropped and 172 grns. I have not slugged my Swede's, but assuming this is a bit too large.

Planned on slugging bores and then checking with Buckshot for a sizer to size .002 over slug size. Any recommendations, especially around load data for the CM would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Well, I finally got around to uploading the targets from my first firing of this rifle. Since I had never fired it before, I was looking forward to it and wondering how it was going to shot. The cast boolits (0.266") were provided by Beekeeper89 (thanks again). The brass was military 30-06 that I had resized and would be fire-formed in this session. Since it was a fire-forming session, I decided that I did not need an exact powder measurement. I loaded each round with one scoop of 2400 with the Lee 1cc scoop. Should be about 13.7 grains of 2400. I loaded a total of 20 rounds. Ten rounds with a dacron filler and ten rounds without. Wanted to see if I could see a difference. All shots were fired at 25 yards and iron sights. Here are the results.

First ten rounds contained the dacron filler. Not knowing where the rear sight should be set, the first round was way high. Dropped it down and fired the next 9 rounds. Not too bad for my first rounds through the rifle.

http://i718.photobucket.com/albums/ww187/Pirate69-photo/Swedish%20Mauser/001.jpg

Next ten rounds were shot without a dacron filler. It is actually a better group than the rounds with a dacron filler. Probably not a good test since the first group was the first time I had shot this rifle. Still, not a bad 10-shot group.

http://i718.photobucket.com/albums/ww187/Pirate69-photo/Swedish%20Mauser/002.jpg

After looking at these results and reading the cautions on the CM boolit, I have cancelled my order for the CM and ordered a 140 grain Lyman mold instead. I know, "No guts, No glory."

Well.........I am happy to see the results you got, Pirate! Truth be told, I have not loaded or fired a single cast bullet in my Swede......yet. Got the mold from BABore here on this forum and it is a joy to use, winter provided casting time but also has precluded any range time, LOTS of snow this year.....but spring is only a month or two away........and I WILL have to play with my Swede.......oh Ilsa------daddy is calling for you........

Pirate69-

Just FYI, if that Lyman mold doesn't work out (drops boolits too skinny, etc) BRP has an Improved 268469 140 grn design in the lineup. Bruce's molds are cherrie cut and can be ordered any time. Quality control is 1st rate. No waiting for a Group Buy to fill up. Here's the link to BRP:

Hope this helps,

Dutch4122,
Thanks for the link. Those molds look good. The boolits that keeper89 sent me were sized to 0.266". Hopefully the Lyman mold will meet or exceed that measurement. We shall see. I ordered the LYMAN DOUBLE CAVITY RIFLE MOULD 6.5MM BULLET # 266469 140GR. Does anyone have any history on how big they drop? That would be a bummer to get to small a mold.

keeper89,
Hope you have as much success. I loaded the last 20 rounds of my resized brass this afternoon. Will fire-form them this weekend. Will see what it looks like at 100 yards.:):)

"That would be a bummer to get to small a mold."

If so, it can be "beagled" to whatever size you may need, and a sizing die is easily honed to a accomodate the fatter boolit.

The 266673 are also .266" and are my own. They drop from the mold .266".
