Hello Folks
I am using wheel weights for my casting at the moment, however the last time I visited my Doctor he asked me about melting his collection of lead acid batteries for him so he can cast his fishing sinkers, this got me thinking is there any problems or danger with using battery lead instead of wheel weights as I have access to lots of old batteries.

There is all kinds of danger in it.
Just say NO!
You get a lot of chemical reactions going on.

One guy here turns in the car batteries for cash, then buys lead.
An excellent way to avoid GETTING POISONED!

Last I checked, they wouldn't even buy batteries around here. They say they'll do you a favor and let you drop it off for free sometimes instead of paying for hazmat disposal.

And I'm talking about Florida, not California here.

Last week at the local scrap yard auto sized batteries were bringing $4. They were selling lead for $.50 #. So 1 battery would get you #8 of Pb. That is a no brainer! I always sell the batteries. AND why do you think they send old batteries to China, India and Mexico for recycling? 10

They arent doing you a favor, they are ripping you off. Recyclers in Tampa area buy them from you. Where are you located?
