I slugged my rolling block and it measures .454

I did it twice just to be sure and come up with same results.

I know this is a rebarrel of an older action and guess either the first owner spec'ed this size or that's what was available when the gunsmith did it.

Off to resize down some bullets now. They were first sized to .459--going to redo them to .457

How did they shoot at .459"?

Think that .005-over is a might too large to send down the barrel.

Is this a numrich bbl? Mine is .455 and shows abit of a tight spot about where the dovetail is cut.

Many years back I had a Numrich barrel on a roller that was .455". It shot great with .458" lead. The only reason I know the size was from a pile of bullet found on the ground after the snow melted. I had been shooting into a pile of snow that was built up and packed with the plow. Found all the bullets in less than 1' circle. I miked them and found my bore was on the tight side with deep rifling. The bore was tight also, required the use of Numrich's chamber reamer with a smaller pilot. Did not know this till a few years later when I tried to use the reamer on a standard barrel and found the pilot to be to small.

Don't know the make of the barrel, got the rifle off gunbroker--no info came with it.

I have a heavy weight Numrich 45-70 barrel on a Rem. Rolling Block, and stamped with their name. Just checked the data, .447 bore, .457 grooves. It was a little rough, but lapped out nicely. With heavy trigger and tang sights it is good for 2 1/4" groups at 110 yards. Cost me $150 around 1980. John

My Dillon Sq Deal cost $125 when I got it back in the early 80's. Notice is wasn't a 'B' just a Sq Deal

Loaded many rounds down the years.
