Get a spool of leadless solder,
That's 90/95% tin

Solder drippings from a radiator shop. Ask around a bit you'll find some.

I haven't hit any radiator shops yet, but I've scored some pewter from thrift shops around here. I need to hit a local radiator shop that's for sale. Maybe the shop owner will be willing to part with some since he's getting outta the business...

All the radiator shops are gone from this area. Now everybody just replaces the radiator. I just paid $345. today on my pickup. Dang plastic end cap split like a ripe watermellon. It dumped all but a pint or so, of fresh antifreez, on my carport.

I worked in a radiator shop as my first job out of the service. I Pulled them and installed them after repair. If only I had known about the tin at that time. They just about gave it away to a scrap dealer who came around every month. Camerl, You can buy rolls of one pound of different solders from Lowe's or Home Depot. I bought about 10 rolls once that were on clearence for $2.50 a roll and it was 60/40

Lead-free solder is the standard for sweating copper pipe. You can not legally solder copper water pipe with lead based solder. So,,,, just go the the plumbing section of your local Depot/Lowes/Ace/Orchard and get a roll of lead-free solder.

The lead free solder at the True Value store here is 95% tin and 5% silver and they charge for it like its gold - 23 dollars for a one pound roll.

In the begining I was thinking that they are zink, but as I looked more closely I noticed the Sn sign in them..
They are available atleast here in Europe.

I scored a free bucket full of wheel weights the other day, but when I got it home and sorted it out, half by volume was iron. Still, 35# all cleaned up, that's a pretty good mess of metal.
A lot of the iron weights were new, stick on style, seems the guys working there do not like stick-ons. Anyone have an insight?
