View Full Version : Gas checks without sizing?

Recently ordered a lee mould. It's the 160 grain tumble lube .312 one for 7.62x39. I was hoping to use it to cast for my Enfield. Pretty sure it should work, as the barrel slugs at .312.

What I was wondering is this: Does anyone make a tool for crimpign on your gas checks without resizing? Seeing as these are TL bullets, and i don't have a luber/sizer, I was hoping that someone might make a tool for crimping the gas checks on.

If anyone has any homemade tools or anything that can be easily replicated, i'd like to see it! I am currently in school for machining, and I could probably make something. I was thinking of just a ram extension for my press with somethign similar to a roll crimp or factory crimp die? Any ideas?

Thanks,

MJ

Lee push thru sizer, or just shove them on with the sizer?
When I use paper patched loads, I do not use gas checks.

Paper patching is a whole ball of wax that I don't even want to break into :)

Yes. Lyman makes a part for their 450 sizer specifically for this purpose. Mash on the link.

With luck the mold will cast a bit larger than .312" and you can use a Lee .314" push thru sizer. Here is a link

mwjones, im in the same boat as you. I am tumble lubing some .432 wfn GC that I do not want to size but need to seat and crimp a gas check. if you ever build a hand held device or anything that doesnt require me to by a lube sizer, I will be your first customer.

some use the collet type bullet puller to crimp them on. the cam lock type.
