I was casting up some round balls tonight, I have gotten in the habit of weighing up random numbers of boolits when sorting (5 to 10 depending on the amount I cast). anyway.

i casted up some .490 rbs out of range lead (sort out j words). they came out an avg of 176grs

then soft lead (almost pure): 177gr

the ww balls I made (done a couple months ago): 173gr

taking that the pure/soft lead is at 5bhn

my range lead at 6bhn

and ww at 9bhn.

this maybe just an random thought. i don't own an hardness tester to confirm if what I seen in the weights are true.

The more tin and/or antimony the both harder and lighter they will be.

I rarely weigh round balls but have used the wrong pot to cast some .562 balls out of wheel weights those had a lot of flyers and tore the patches often. Another problem caused was part of League shoot was steel targets and the harder balls would zing off them instead of flatten and drop.
Usually visually inspection is fine for round balls no wrinkles and they shoot fine if I do my part.
