Looks like S&W has it's own version of the judge.

I saw them at the SHOT Show this past week. Not bad, if you're into that sort of thing.

Hilarious. Have not been able to figure out why anyone would buy one, but hey, it is
a free market and aparently they are popular. S&W is smart to fill the need.

Not something that I would ever buy, however. Seems pretty silly and useless for my
needs.

Hmmmmm... a Scandium "X" frame? Perfect for building a concealed carry .500 S&W. It's a Smith, so the price will be affordable :)

I will just take my 25 and fill the moon clip with CCI's 45acp shotshell. That should do the trick. Or half shotshell, rest with some decent HP's

It would be a great fishing gun in the south. That's why I would want one, but not at the expense of something else.

Not bad, if you're into that sort of thing.

My father-in-law uses his Judge and .410 shells for possums that come onto the porch to eat the cat food.

My dad carrys his judge with 410 loads for shooting rats in the field when he is mowing.

I own one of the older Judges with the 4" barrel. I have, on occasion, carried it concealed loaded with .45 Colts, but not often. I bought it from a friend at the gun club in SC back in '07. I thought it would make an excellent woods gun for Mr. Wiggly and friends.

Is it just me or is there a pattern developing with this mindset of carrying a .410 revolver for self defense? I picked up a gun rag a few months back and there was an article wherein the author suggested this was the best thing since sliced bread. I'm puzzled by this.

I wouldn't want to be shot in the boot with a BB gun, nevermind anything more powerful, but I would NEVER trust my life to a pattern of two or three buck shots with the energy of a .22 Short. And as for using # 4s or 6s, seems to me you'd have to be within kissin' distance for that to actually stop the threat.

When the weather warms up and day time highs reach the upper 70s and lower 80s, I'll strap on my ol' Judge and prime the first two chambers with #6s if I mean to venture into Mr. Wiggly's territory. And you can believe the last three chambers will be primed with .45 Colt rounds and a speed loader in my pocket. Outside of that, you'll be hard pressed to catch my without my .45 automatic.

but hey it works great on pumkins
along the same line although more useful in my opinion is the Howah pistol

Jim

I better run down to Farmers Supply then and pick up a box of .410 buckshot. I'd be in a world of a mess if I were attacked by a pumpkin and all I had was a .45 automatic.

the judge was the hottest selling pistol last year....don't ask me why....marketing ??

they now market 410..handgun ammo.......

i doubt sw will be successful...it will end up being too expensive.....cost being a big reason for the sale of the judge.

A chum of mine bought a judge last year as a defense carry gun. Since he is almost wheelchair bound he wanted something with a range of cartridge options. He now isn`t willing to be seperated from his judge. He has it loaded with the Winchester defense loads and some of my .45 LC "tree killer" rounds.Robert

I believe it has a deflector to angle the blast away from the forearm.

In the defence of the 410 folks there is some great ammo out there, a good example http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=533166 them 4 pellets (.360" dai) are moving at 1200fps thats like being shot with (4) 380acp bullets at once.

Personly I wouldn't carry one for self defence but if 1 bullets is good 4 must be better. lol

Just another angle.

It doesn't speak well for S&W when they have to look to Taurus for fresh ideas... :-?

I have a taurus 4510 tracker. I carry it when in the woods for mr no-neck and when i go let out and put up the chickens. When i am on the tractor i built a holder for my 270. One never knows when they might see a yote. I have seen and shot some of the biggest yotes when i have out cutting the feilds.

The 4510 is a great sidearm on the farm/woods but for selfdefence i carry my 45acp. Just my 2cents

Kywilber

edited to say i use 7shot shells in 3 chambers and lc's in the others

Like many, I find it incredible that .410 revolvers are so popular. Were they used in a movie or video game?

That velocity is from a 26 inch shotgun barrel ! from the judges 4 inch or shorter barrel its about 800 to 850 FPS. so power will be much lower

+1!

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if they offered .414 and .445 SuperMags too!

Maybe now that Dan Wesson is offering the 715 again we will see the return of the big guns as well!!

Please show me were you got your info about a 26" barrel.

My info came from the link I provided and here is what it says:

Created by Federal for use in the Taurus Judge revolver, this ammunition, like all Federal Premium Personal Defense Ammunition, is the choice of law enforcement agencies worldwide. This load features a special hull design so they'll produce exceptional results in the Judge. This ammunition is new production.

Ballistics Information:

Muzzle Velocity: 1200 fps

So if this was created for the Taurus Judge revolver by Federal were would anyone get the idea of the fps was out of a 26" barrel?

Just curious is all.

Smith should re name the pistol "The Governator" in honor of the Califoria Governer:groner:

"Fresh ideas" . . . . . . . . .

HMMMM. Hard to know if a giant .410 shotgun revolver really qualifies as a fresh idea,
or a crazy screwup. I apologize to those that like them, but I wouldn't take one for free.
Clearly from a profit making standpoint (a CRITICAL standpoint!) they are a great idea.

Of course, they are selling like hotcakes, so clearly I am way out of touch.

Gotta say plus one here.
But then I couldn't see the point in those Marlin and Winchester 410's either.

Saw a Judge .410 shot at the range a couple days ago. With small bird shot(I didn't ask) it patterned about 24" at 7 yds. with a lot of space between holes. Loud as heck, might scare off anything.

Haha. I do have a Monson Dan Wesson, but it's just a model 15. When I was just a boy, my uncle (who I got the 15 from) also had a Dan in Supermag. We have a 18" hanging target at 300 yards that he could consistently hit with iron sights off a rest. He used to shoot IHMSA, but a move to Minnesota ended that when he needed money to go to college.

I have always wanted one, and I think S&W would really have a winner if they would pick up the SuperMag line.

As far as the Governor and Judge go, I have absolutely NO use for them.

Doesn't anyone remember the Thunder-5 from back in the early 90's? That 5 shot .410 revolver was cut down by every publication that looked at it. They talked about how absolutely impractical a .410 was out of a handgun. I guess almost 20 years later .410's can do something they couldn't do before.

I do remember seeing the Dan Wesson stretched SM frame in 7-30 waters in a gun mag many years ago, was pretty amazing. But then the standard SM frame was a beast, I had one.
