Just came in from pouring a nice pile of the Lee 400gr boolits.

The boolit(Lee 400gr.) loaded to first crimp groove(from bottom) measures 1.790" and hodgdon is calling 1.620~1.640".
My question to all you folks that load this round in a Ruger kind of accuracy are you getting loading this boolit to the first crimp groove vs. the second groove?
My day at the range (14* with north wind @ 15~20mph) will have to wait a day or so.

Everything I've read on the 480 Ruger the faster the boolit is going the better the accuracy gets. Which is what I'm after. Is this true or just internet BS.

Thanks Robert

Unless the 480 uses a much different twist than my .475, I'm not sure high velocity is a necessity for good accuracy with the LEE 400. I just dug out a 50 yard target I shot that measures 1-7/8" for 5 shots, iron sights. The load was 5.0 grains of Trailboss. I think it chronoed in the 550 fps. range.

That boolit seems very stable at slower speeds. I have generally had better luck with hot loads producing small groups, but if just for practice, I don't think you will have a problem with midrange loads and the LEE . Good luck.
