Hi
Been looking on this site on and off for awhile but havn't really done any posts.
I have an original Winchester 1885 High Wall and will be getting ready to reload for it.
A friend of mine who is very knowledgeable in the cast bullet making field shed some lite for me on the dia of .38-55 bullets out of a Win. '94 should be .379 as I have a .38-55 as well. The bullets I use are .378 but I add the Lee Alox lube to them as well as the lube that is already on them. The groups shrunk down instantly.
So I am curious as to what the best dia for my .32-40 should be?
I know slugging the barrel is the proper way of doing it, but can anyone share some lite on their experience with the .32-40.
Thanks

The nominal diameter of Winchester .32-40's was 0.319". The moulds Winchester used to sell for the cartridge came out about that size, without needing further sizing.

My .32-40 Winchester mould casts at 0.319" for most tin/lead alloys. I've never slugged he only original Winchester .32-40 bore I have that is in shooting condition, but it is just as happy with boolits sized to 0.322" or 0.323" as those of 0.319". Since I have two other .32-40's that prefer the larger sizes anyway, I size everything to those two diameters.

My Highwall in .38-55 slugs at 0.380" and is pretty hopeless with boolits sized even to 0.377" which is the fattest .38 boolit I have a mould for. Guess I'll have to get one of the custom fat moulds to bring out its potential.

RCBS makes a 38-55-FN, not cataloged but I think they must sell a lot of 'em? Very similar to their cataloged 37-250-FN except it's a little bigger diameter. Mine drops 'em from Ly#2 alloy at between .381" & .382". Call 'em

Thanks, Peerlesscowboy. I had seen the RCBS 0.375; didn't know they had a special oversize. I'll give them a call.
