I've really enjoyed reading up on all the different CB load options available for the 30-30. With LEE alone, they make 11 different molds from .308-.312.

With the following assumptions:
1) not loading more than one spire pointed boolit in the magazine at any given time
2) proper COL is maintained so that the round will cycle through the magazine and into the chamber
3) not exceeding pressure limitations
4) using properly trimmed/sized/annealed brass

Is it safe to assume that you could technically load up all 11 different cast boolits for the 30-30 with success?

Define "success", I think you'll find the .312" will be more accurate than the .308"?

the other assumption is obviously FIT. Given that non TL molds tend to throw a bit fat anyway. My C309-150-F throws at .312! I size to .311 and they shoot like buttah!

One additional "assumption";

Lever actions do not have a great amount of camming action. The bullet nose must be a slip fit into the bore or be very slightly engraved by the rifling if the nose extends beyond leade. If not chambering will be difficult and misfires can result, especially with M94s.

I agree with that. What's in a name? I suspect the "308"s are designed for .30 caliber & the "312"s are designed for .303 caliber? I suspect they'd BOTH drop from the mould at least 2 or 3 thousands bigger than their names imply?

Your world will be much brighter is you stick with bullets designed for the 30-30. There are many of them from all makers.

For hunting with cast many recommend a flat nose. Within the 30-30 range the ballistic difference is minimal. I'm waiting on my Canadian PAL to buy a 94 in 30-30 or 32 Special. I'll be going with Ranch Dogs offerings above for first mold.

Spire points interest me for light weight jacketed bullets for varmint style loads. The explosive nature of the bullets reduces ricochets around livestock areas. In the bush lead all the way.

Here's some good reading from Junior;

I like the RCBS 30-180-FN myself.
