2400 in the 38-55

I have a old 1990 Hercules reloaders guide and it shows 18.0 grs of 2400 at 1410 fps and c.u.p. of 23,500 bullet listed as a 255SP.
I checked every manual I have and this is the only referance I find using 2400.
Anybody have other ref to 2400 in a 38-55.?

The Lyman 45th Edition lists 2400 in 38-55. Firearm used 26" Win 94.

I don't have a 38-55, but those Lyman numbers work well for my 9.3x72R...

I checked the Phil Sharpe book of 1937. The max 18/19 grain loads listed above for 2400 are running about 15, 500 psi with those two lead bullets. He also suggests that in newer well chambered guns the pressures could go up to 35, 000 psi. I think the High Velocity loads were a little faster in the 38-55 than the ones he listed and with care and our range of powders, 2400 and some slower could deliver a little more velocity if done carefully. 2400 is a great lead bullet powder in many cartridges. The brand new Lyman 4th edition CB Handbook also has loads in it for that chambering, as well as quite a few of the older pre-1900 rounds.
