I just agreed to buy a dillon 1050 for $400. It is supposed to be in good condition. My question is, how many rounds are they good for before needing to be rebuilt? How do I tell 1050 from super 1050? Does anyone know what dillon charges for a rebuild? Thanks for your assistance.

Would be a deal at twice the price. IIRC, Dillon charges $150 for a re-build

Yeah, I knew I was getting a deal but I was concerned what a rebuild might cost if it is needed. This belonged to a man that passed away. The fellow that has it is a freind of the family. He knows what it is worth but he just wants to move it as he does not reload. He also has a bunch of odd ball dies like 32-20 and the likes for cowboy shooting that I may be listing here for him.

I think they are good for .5M rounds or something like that before a rebuild is necessary.

I just purchased a Super 1050 not long ago, and wondered the same thing: What is the difference between the 1050 and SUPER 1050? If anyone knows, I too would be interested.

the 1050 does not have the clearance for loading anything longer that 223. at least that is my understanding. i would like to know how to tell the two apart.

The only difference is that the Super has a longer stroke. You can tell from a photo what it is, hard to miss "super" on the case feed post. For $400 bucks you shouldn't have left without it, you could get 3 times that out of it easy.

As said, the Super on the post is the biggest noticeable difference. At that price take it either way, I'm certain you could put a markup on it and still give someone else on here an excellent deal on it. I can tell you the clearance from the shell plate to the toolhead is 3" on an RL1050, so if it's bigger then that it should be the super.

You will love reloading on it no matter which it is if you have a use, if you don't have a use PM me.

You are concerned about a rebuild for a $400 1050?
If possible, try to get any caliber conversions, powder measures, tool heads, dies and such that they may have.
You can easily get $1200 for it.

I am going to put it in my shop and spend a lot less time cranking out 9mm.

BTW, a 1050 will load 308. Barely, but you can do it. You have to do a few thing to your dies and modify a part to get it to work, but I have loaded at least 2K on my 1050.

I have owned a 550B for over 20 years but when I tried to load 223 on it I was unable to get consistent powder charges from the on board powder measure, some time s getting as much as a 12% variation which doesn't aid accuracy at all ! BTW I was using the likes of AA 2230 ,2460.

The Dillon measure (and others) does not like extruded powders. Stick with ball powders, 748 or ramshot tac, for example and load away.

I'll second that.

I just purchased my 550B a few weeks ago and I use AA 2230 for .223 and it throws 24gr +/-0.1 gr every pull. Most are 24 on the nose, though. I was amazed at how much better the powder funnel was than the RCBS on my bench.

AA2230 IS a ball powder. My cheapy go to for 223 / 556.

I have dreams of a 1050. Long, sweaty dreams like Phoebe Cates coming out of a pool.....

Got all the parts ordered to make the press work. Cost me $74. I had to order 6 locator buttons, 6 tabs, the cartridge bin, and cartridge bin support bracket. All in all, I am still smiling. LOL

So you are at $474 for a 1050, let me know if you ever want to sell it!!!

Keep her lubed up regularly and she will last you a LONG time! One great fast press IMO.
