Stopped by the local shop today for some reason and they had a 1million s/n 1903MKI rifle for sale. Wasn't really looking to buy anything, but this thing just called to me.
Last o3 I saw was over in Ft. Collins @$450 and didn't have time to wait for the background check, so passed it by. Had a bunch of stickers on it from competiton. Figured someone passed away and it went on the consignment shelf. Kicked myself for many a time on that one.
This one is in immaculate shape. Park is excellent, few nicks and gouges on stock, it has a SA10-44 bbl on it (4groove, perfect shape), so kind of guess it might have been rebuilt. See few o3's around here, and this one is in good shape.
Plan on boolits in it. What has worked for you?. I have 5744, 4759, 2400 & 4227 along with surplus 4895 too.
Think I might have paid too much, but gotta ask the experts, what are these things worth? If I had to grade it, discounting a possible rebuild, it would be around 85-90%. Thanks

Sorry, no Pedersen device with it. If it did, I know I would have a good buy!!:)

Pics later, on bench cleaning bore for copper first, now

My friend bought one at the Birmingham Show about 3 yrs. ago for $485 buy he had to replace the butt stock and handguard. So add $185.00 to that. With that said, his is in near 98% condition now inside and out. His is a " high # " Mark I.

Rockrat,

Standard target loads for benchrest competition are 16.0 grains of A2400, 18.0 grains of SR4759 or 20.0 grains of MP5744 with the 200 -210 grain bullets sized .313".

There's one in a local shop that they have priced at 2200. Its got a 1-19 barrel date and must be a rebuild because its just 'too clean'

Your rifle is definately a rebuild as to value I have not been following springfields lately (no interest in them) but would imagin that they would be running $500 to $650 or so. I had a MK I years ago and at the time there was no premium being paid for them but time have changed since then. By the way just about all the MK I were made during WWI and into 1919 but none after that date as the Army decided to scrape the Pederson devices and all MkIs in inventory had the parts for installing the pederson device removed and standard parts installed in their place. Now if you had a MkI with the parts and the Pederson device you could name your own price on it and get it.
