I just got this mold, and thought it needed some work. So here's what I did: soaked everything in marvel oil for a few weeks, then I took a pencil over the bottom of the sprue, face of the mold, top of the mold(for the sprue), and the cavities. Then I cleaned it as best I could with marvel, then soapy water, and finally put them in the oven to dry. Now to my question: do you think they came out pretty good or need more work? I honestly have no clue as this is the first mold Ive tried to clean.

I've seen mold that look worse and cast perfect boolits. I've seen mold that look great and cast poo.

Go heat that puppy up and see fer yerself. You can always do more later. Really, there's no way of knowing until you start dropping bullets from it. Go cast a hundred from it and post the results.

I think the mold looks pretty good. There are some nicks visible on the edges of the sprue plate, but if they ate not holding up closure or scraping the top of the mold blocks, they should be fine. I might try a copper or brass brush on the mold face flats to see if the speckle looking remnants of oxides come off. The vent cuts and parting edges look nice and sharp in the photos.

Ok, it will be awhile before I get to do any casting because I dont have any lead smelted and I really dont want to smelt in the snow.

Also the mold blocks are not matching(same bullet number of course, just not the same cherry) does that make a difference?

and the screws that hold the mold to the handles are striped, can I just re-tap the holes and be good to go or do bullet molds need something else done instead?

Yes, it can matter a lot since cherries wear over time and are never cut exactly the same way. Cleanup job looks pretty good, though, maybe a little deburring with some 600-grit emery paper, some more of that MM oil, and a piece of flat glass. Then degrease the heck out of it, try it out and see!

I'd try it but if you have mismatched blocks you might not be happy with end result.
