I was wondering if any one casts for the 357 Sig.In the Lyman load book 49 it says none of there molds are suitable for the short neck on the 357 Sig.I have the Lyman 356637 it is the 9mm FN,BB 147 gr boolit and I really want to try it in the 357.If it wont work does any one know of one that will. Thanks for any help you may have.

I tried the 358=242 122 grain round nose with abysmal results. Patterns in the vicinity of 6 inches at 15 yards from a gun that shot 125 grain Speer/CCI Lawman ammo into 2 inches all day long at the same distance. I tried Unique and Bluedot with equally poor results.

I have a Glock 32 in .357 Sig but have never shot cast in it. I have HEARD that the Lee 105 grain SWC made for the .38 has a short enough nose that it will work. Just for informations sake, I loaded a dummy round a while back with a 124 grain RN, and it was much too long, so I cannot imagine that your 147 grain mold will work.

I recently purchased a Storm Lake .40 S & W ported barrel for my pistol, so I doubt that cast in the .357 Sig will ever be an issue for me.

Sorry I could not be of more help. .357 Sig is a great caliber.

Here is a list of lead boolits I have reloaded for my Sig P239 chambered in 357 Sig.
In order of my preference to shoot paper targets:

122g TC mould by SAECO, .550” OAL
120g TC mould by Lee, .570” OAL
100g TC mould by Lyman, .420” OAL
105g SWC mould by Lee, .510” OAL
140g SWC mould by Lee, .655" OAL

I have shot 147g lead and jacketed bullets, but would not recommend a “new to 357 Sig” reloader start out with it.

Good Luck

Thanks for the help.I have been warned about boolit setback and may need to do a few before I try any thing to tricky.I have a Lee 105 RN that I might just as well try in it.It works good in .380 and 9MM for Me.And I have heard you can get decent accuracy from the Sig round and cast lead.

Experienced reloaders do not have a problem with boolit setback, even in 357Sig.

I shoot all lead for "just shooting" my Sig. I shoot jacketed for "personal protection".
It does both jobs very well!

Your Lee 105g RN should do fine. In my experience any boolit that works in a .380 gun will also do well in a 357Sig. They both require bulldog rounds, (short noses).

Well I have about 4 years in as a handloader.I dont feel the 357 Sig is that much different than any other.I checked the COL of the 105 RN and feel it should do well if I keep the velocity low enough.I also have some 124 XTP left over from loading 9 MM that seem to be OK.Also I will buy a mold from the list above to cast some. Thanks for the help.

I know this thread is a little old, but...

Has anyone designed a HP GC round for the .357 Sig to run in a Group buy?

Seems like of any auto-loading handgun caliber, this one is the hardest to meet the requirements of with existing commercial molds.

Seems to require more thought to it than some old lyman numbers can accommodate.

Since the .357 Sig has a short neck, and seems to have bullet set back problems shouldn't it have a crimp groove in a cast boolit design. Just allowing the cartridge to seat on the shoulder like a rifle round ?..

I did some searching, but didn't locate anything specific for the Sig in the "closed group buys" area. I could have missed it as some Thread headers are titled odd.

If anyone knows of a past Group Buy design, or a mold maker that has one specifically for the .357 Sig, l'd like to know of it also.

Thanks

I use Saeco #924 124 gr. swcgc in my 357 sigs. I headspace on the shoulder so you can crimp as much as you want. The shoulder will collapse easily so be careful. I use accurate #9 or #7 which will pretty much fill the case so setback is not a problem. I push them real fast with no leading. They are way more accurate than I am. I use straight lino and they weigh in at 117 with the check in place. I also use them in my 9MM and some 357's. Mine pours at 357.5 so sizing is just for lube. Good luck, Rod

you think the 357 sig is hard to load try the 9x25 dillon lol

its my current toy and I'm also looking for a cast bullet for it in the 125gr range but i need a GC because I'm pushing them between 1500-1800 fps depending on what I'm doing.

Surely someone has tried.

Looks to me like there is enough bullet to hold.

There must be a way to make it work.
